How can I become a middle school or elementary school teacher if I did not major in education?

I am a Business Management major and am about to enter my senior year. Changing my major to Education at this point would mean I wouldn't graduate for almost another 3 years.

What are my options for becoming a teacher at this point? How do I pursue certification? Can I just take a certification course? Or do I need to go to grad school?
How can I become a middle school or elementary school teacher if I did not major in education?
A middle school teacher generally does not major in Education, but rather in the subject they plan to teach. But you do need Ed courses and student teaching.

Visit the Education Dept. and get your questions answered there.

get your degree and then 2 years of graduate school and you will be a certified teacher! good luck and always continue to learn new things.

What major changes in our society have occurred in the past 13 years?

i have to do a 300 word essay about one major change in our society that i have observed or experianced. I clueless. i don't want to write about technology cuz everyone will do that. I was thinking about the US Election but that would be too long. Maybe gay rights or environmental. help me!
What major changes in our society have occurred in the past 13 years?
i would do one about cell phones cause nobody had them (or very few) 13 years ago.

Gay right would qualify too, but I think cell phones would be bestter.
What major changes in our society have occurred in the past 13 years?
a black man got elected as president

but seriously ...

obama (black) got eleced as president

we went to war with Iraq

the twin towers got hit
i was born
in reality people are getting dumber and dumber they are trying to exhaust mother earths resources
WELL OBAMA GOT VOTED AS PRESIDENT! WHOO! ID SOO DO THAT.
clothing!!!!!!!!!!!1
08 was huge cuz it was the worst yr since the depression and we voted in our first african american president
Someone just told me they abolished slavery WTF man???
the rich have got richer and the poor have got poorer
You could right about Tony the tiger and where in tar nation did he go he went to a good place
Talk about the environment, sure, and how it's all a lie by the government. If you look at what real established scientists--those that aren't paid by politicians--say, you'll realize that most of their studies suggest that most of the environmentalism out there is complete BS. In fact, politicians have been starting to realize this in the past year or two and have been quieting down about it. If you want to write about the environment, write about the environmental hoax.
You could write about media influence on society. Its probably not a recent major change since the media has always influenced people but over the past few years its gotten bad.

I would talk about all the pressures women and girls feel to be skinny/pretty/beautiful/look like a model/etc because of all the exposure we have to magazines, movies, tv shows. etc.

good luck!
Nothing has changed in the past 13 years, let alone the past 100 years.

Society thinks they're getting smarter, but they keep making the same mistakes.

Drop the sociology class and go sign up for history class instead.
cell phone use became widespread

internet usage became widespread

security has gotten tougher in many places after 9/11

Iraq war

nations changin to digital tv transmission signals (such as US, netherlands, etc.)

first african-american president-elect

economic recession

energy crisis

medical advances

(jst 2 name a few )
I am older than I was a year ago. That is big time major.

Anyways, the election would be great to do. First black President. how society has become more accepting. My Hist. of India teacher told me how Obama won in a preiviously racist neighborhood. Try that.

The going Green thing has been going on now.

California passed the thing about marriage being only between a man and a woman. That is really interesting. I'd like to look into that. Give a little history about before and then tell why it is a surprising result. That would be a good one.
The increased threat of terrorism here in the US has eliminated our smugness that we are invincible, the increase in obesity and how it affects health, unemployment, longevity etc, or the emphasis on %26quot;political correctness%26quot; in speech so as not to trample on anyone's feelings, the proliferation of %26quot;reality%26quot; television that is anything but real, pathetic state of the economy....I could go on and on.
The American Indians have gotten the right to build casinos in states that don't allow casinos.

That's about it.

Enjoy.

What jobs can I get with a major in German and a minor in Computer Science? Any ideas?

My major concentration is in Athletic Training right now, but I'm thinking about changing my major to German and minoring in Computer Science, what jobs could I get with these?
What jobs can I get with a major in German and a minor in Computer Science? Any ideas?
You could get a great paying fun job with that education. I would look to make 100K per year US Dollars. You might want to follow the top 100k jobs.
What jobs can I get with a major in German and a minor in Computer Science? Any ideas?
Dont know about German,

But after doing Computer Science you can get into IT companies, as a programmer or a developer. And they do pay you enough to be satisfied and happy. Go ahead after computer science and you will get even more.

  • What are the major changes in the road from Orotina to Jaco Costa Rica?

I have been travelling to Manuel Antonio for over a decade now on the road from Allejuela through Atenas - then San Mateo and Orotina. I understand that some major changes have been made around Orotina to accomodate the new highway. I'm going back in mid-December Anyone been through there recently who can provide me with any key information I should know? I do know that the new road is a toll road and am prepared for that.
What are the major changes in the road from Orotina to Jaco Costa Rica?
I recently drove the coast from Pavones to Jaco, then on to San Jose.

The road from Dominical to Quepos is paved almost the entire way, Quepos to Jaco was already paved, and then from Jaco to Orotina there is the begining of a 4-lane highway, and a toll booth is up and operating, but they force you off at Orotina (I am 90% sure that was the town) and you go the crazy mountain way the rest of the way to San Jose.
What are the major changes in the road from Orotina to Jaco Costa Rica?
Some of the construction has been stopped due to environmental problems. For how long and what areas, it is a little unknown. Below is a link that might give you some answers.

    http://ticotimes.com/costa-rica/caldera-鈥?/a>
No big changes! The road is better after Orotina, but just that part.

The new road is supposed to be finished next year, travel time will be shorter then.
yes there is a toll but there are also signs so easy to follow the exits etc

What are a few major changes that have occurred in the past 10 years?

    My essay question:

There has been much change in America in the last ten years. How has this change impacted your dreams and aspirations for the future?

I just need a few examples of some major changes in America. Besides Obama. Please and thank you.
What are a few major changes that have occurred in the past 10 years?
I think one of the things that has most impact America in the last ten years is 9-11. That one act had tremendous repercussions and has affected our aspirations for the future of our nation. It has created a fear in our country that was never there before. We feel less secure. It has affected our liberties in a huge way. You can now have your laptop taken away from you at some airport with no explanation and no guarantee of its return. The government can monitor your phone calls or e-mails. (the Patriot Act)

    http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/2008/03鈥?/a>

Another change involves the banking situation. With the banking situation it is harder to buy a house, get a loan to start a business, or anything else for that matter.

    http://www.calculatedriskblog.com/2009/0鈥?/a>
What are a few major changes that have occurred in the past 10 years?
The economy: everything is way more expensive than when I moved here 9 years ago, this impacts my future because it's not easy to buy food and make rent without money. Jobs are also harder to get right now, i used to get jobs quickly a few years ago, now it's zip.

Society: people have become more liberal and care less about moral values. I guess not only in America but in many parts of the world. It was weird to see a 13-years old pregnant child before, it has turned into something common today.

Can a transfer psychology major change their major to biology at UC Berkeley?

I'm a community college student looking to transfer to UCB. I'm done with the psychology requirements, but I want to go to medical school and I think biology would be a better major.

Is it possible to transfer into UCB now as a psychology major and then change to a biology major?
Can a transfer psychology major change their major to biology at UC Berkeley?
You could do that, but psych is just fine if you want to go pre-med. All you have to do is take the pre-med pre-reqs. If you really wanted to get crafty, you could create a biopsychology major via the Interdisciplinary Studies Department.

Speaking from experience, you need to be very competitive and studious if you want to study molecular cell biology at Cal. That's a common pre-med major, and it really wrecked my career. I'm a bright gal, but I couldn't ace those classes. integrative biology is a better track, and you can focus more on physiology (if that's your thing -- it's mine, and I sure wish I'd have done it), than just molecular.

btw, we call it Cal, not UCB.

What do i need to major in to become a psycholist?

What couses do I need to take/. Doi I need a bachlors or a masters?

    Thanks so much

Right now I am taking courses to get into nursing shool and I think I want to change majors. That is why I want to know
What do i need to major in to become a psycholist?
To be a psychologist you need a PhD.

You know, you can be a nurse AND be a psychologist at the same time. Nursing is a great career with lots of specialties.

    Sure you want to change?
What do i need to major in to become a psycholist?
Me too! I am a nursing major looking into that right now. You should check out some books from the library about it. I'm doing that. It gives you a more in depth look at the branchssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss鈥?Sorry about that. But you should check out the library and ask the librarian about getting some books to read about the subject. Lord knows you'll have plenty of superfluous flub to read to the point where you shout %26quot;WHAT IS THIS REALLY SAYING? IS IT SAYING ANYTHING AT ALL?!%26quot; And fling the book across the room. So better head on over to the library and get in that practice now.

    Good luck!
spelling. First learn how to read, write and spell. Its spelled psychologist.

What major changes happened in the olympics from 1948 to present day?

what major changes happened from 1948 to present day (e.g. men and women and new sports) also what major political actions occurred? (munich, moscow, L.A. and Mexico) please explain. Thank you.
What major changes happened in the olympics from 1948 to present day?
to add what Mr. Olympia had posted above.

    Major political accounts occured:

1948 London Olympics - IOC banned Japan and Germany from participating because of their involvement in World War II.

1956 Melbourne Olympic - the first Games to be boycotted. Netherland, Spain and Switzerland boycotted due to Soviet's crushing of Hungarian Revolution. And Egypt, Iraq and Lebanon boycotted due to Suez War. People's Republic of China also boycotted because Republic of China (Taiwan) was allowed to compete.

1964 Tokyo Olympics - IOC banned South Africa from competing due to apartheid

1968 Mexico Olympics - American sprinters Tommie Smith and John Carlos did a Black Power salute. and Czech gymnast V臎ra 膶谩slavsk谩 silently bowed her head and away during her awarding ceremonies in protest of Soviet's invasion of her country.

1972 Munich Olympics - the Munich Massacre occured.

1976 Montreal Olympics - 28 African nations boycotted the Games due to IOC's refusal to bar New Zealand from the games. New Zealand's all-Black rugby team toured South Africa who are under apartheid regime. Republic of China (Taiwan) boycotted the Games as well when Canada recognized People's Reublic of China, who also boycotted the Games.

1980 Moscow Olympics - 61 countries led by the US boycotted the games due to Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Chinese-Taipeh (formerly Taiwan) boycotted due to Nagoya Resolution which made PROC to participate in the IOC. Iran also boycotted for unknown reason.

1984 Los Angeles Olympics - 14 nations led by the Soviet Union boycotted the Games in apparent retaliation to US-led boycott in 1980. Iran and Libya didn't participate due to unknown reasons

1988 Seoul Olympics - North Korea, who is war with the South, boycotted along with 6 other nations.
What major changes happened in the olympics from 1948 to present day?
For starters where allot fewer sports (disciplines/events) in 1948 then there's know. You had 17 sports in London Olympics where as in Beijing 2008 28 sports.

London 2012 number will be back to 26 then go back up to 28 for 2016.What happened was Baseball and Softball (1992-1996) where voted to be removed from the Olympics.

From 1948-1960 Olympics still had 17 sports as part of the Olympic proggrame.

Tokyo 1964- Volleyball and Judo where added.

Munich 1972-Indoor Handball and after a 52 year absence Archery. Slalom racing-Canoe/Kayak- would be part of 1972 games and ever since 1992 would be apart of every Olympics.

LA 1984- Synchronized swimming and Rhythmic Gymnastics make their first appearance.

Seoul 1988-Table Tennis makes its first appearance to the Olympic programme. After 64 years of not being part of the Olympics Tennis returns

    Barcelona 1992- Baseball and Badminton

Atlanta 1996- Beach Volleyball , Mountain Biking and Softball.

Sydney 2000- Triathlon and Taekwondo. Also Trampoline was added.

Beijing 2008- BMX and Marathon Swimming

Women ever since 1948 the number of sports and events would increase with Boxing being the only sport out of the 26 that women don't compete in.

1952- A change in the rules for Equestrian competitions meant women could enter but would also compete alongside the men in the same 'mixed events'

1964- Women for the 1st time ever competed in a team sport Volleyball.

1976- Women's events in Basketball, Rowing and Handball

1980- Women competed in Field Hockey .

1984- Women's marathon and Road Racing Cycling made itheir debuts.

1992-Women competed in Judo for the first time

1996- Women's Football (Soccer) made its debut

2000- Women competed in Weightlifting for the first time as well as Water Polo

    2004- Women's Wrestling debuts.

Beijing 2008 a record 42% of the athletes where women. Rome 1960 just 11.5% of athletes where women to 22% 1980 Moscow.

By 2000 Sydney 38%, with 4,306 female athletes out of a total 10,568 athletes.

2004 Athens women competed in 26 out of the 28 sports (Baseball and Boxing men only) and 135 events. While Beijing 2008 number of sports women competed in remained the same the events where increased to 137. Women where able to compete in the steeple chase and women's foil (fencing) where added.

    http://www.olympic.org/uk/organisation/ >

In other sport news the IOC eliminated demonstration sports from the Olympics starting in Atlanta 1996.
    World War II.

The Olympic games were in hiatus in 1940 and 1944 so as 1916 during World War I.

The 1940 Olympic games were to been held in Tokyo; the 1944 Olympic games were to been held in London. But it was cancelled due to WWII. Then after the war, the IOC awarded the Olympics to London.

  • What are the major changes in tax law for 2008?

Hi all. Thanks for looking at my question. I am reentering the Accounting field after a two-year break. I understand there are some major changes for tax year 2008 and beyond.

Can someone give me a basic description of the major changes?

What professional publications do you recommend I read/subscribe to in order to update myself on the changes in preparing individual and business income taxes this season?

Thanks and have a great day.
What are the major changes in tax law for 2008?
Look at %26quot;what's new%26quot; at the beginning of each numbered section of Publication 17 and %26quot;what's new for 2008 on page1 and %26quot;what's new for 2009%26quot; on page 2 - of course there are a number of new things that have happened since last year's pub 17 was issued..
What are the major changes in tax law for 2008?
IRS Pub 17 is your %26quot;bible%26quot; for everything taxes at the Federal level. In fact, it's the pub that most books are based upon. It's not copyrighted so many publishers shamelessly and legally copy it with their own name on the masthead. Some add value with better examples or explanations while others are simple re-branded copies of Pub 17.
you are reentering the Accounting field and want to know about the tax changes? seems rather odd to me

however, there are lots of tax seminars all across the country, to name one called Brass Tax, and there are many societies and organizations that continue presenting education to keep tax preparers up to date

if you are in Calif. the www.cstcsociety.org is a good place to look and each of the chapters have their own education agendas, which at this point is about to end--with Nov. meetings

In CAlif renewal REGISTRATTION with the Calif. Tax Education Council is about the reach its deadline too, Oct. 31.

    that would be www.ctec.org

How do I stay motivated in college when I am going to change my major next semester?

I am a freshman at a university and I had always wanted to study business or accounting, something in the office world. Somewhere along the way, based on people's advice, I sold that dream for engineering for job security, salary, etc. Now I am bored out of my mind and changing my major back to what I enjoy. How do I stay motivated to finish the irrelevant courses I am now in? I feel like I am just wasting my time this semester. Please Help.
How do I stay motivated in college when I am going to change my major next semester?
The course are not irrevelant as they can probably go toward your BA. Consider engineering as a minor or an addl course of study you can put on your resume. Just business is so generic so having that could help with jobs

In a predicament. Looking to change major under difficult circumstances.?

Hi, I'm interested in changing my major to Nursing (I'm currently majoring in Business Administration). However, my university only offers the entry level nursing program at the main campus which happens to be located very far from where I live. That leaves me with the option of transferring to a nearby community college to take LPN courses. What should I do? I don't really like Business Administration, Nursing is what draws my attention.

    switch to the main campus

  • Changing from undergrad business at UC berkeley?

I applied as a business major at UC Berkeley and was accepted. I intend on attending as a freshman this fall. But I was wondering, if it would be difficult to change majors to something more a bit %26quot;pre-med%26quot; perhaps biochem? To be honest, I don't know what major I would like yet, and I'm having second thoughts about business. But I just want to make sure I can keep my options open.

    Thanks
Changing from undergrad business at UC berkeley?
If you're an incoming freshman, then you're not in the business school yet. You still have a chance to test the waters in terms of your interests. However you'd be a complete idiot to waste the opportunity to attend Haas.

You enroll in Haas in your 3rd year; you have apply to get into the major/school. So right now, like most of the other freshmen, you're undeclared.

Take the courses that overlap pre-med and business first: Math 1, R%26amp;C (reading and composition) and so forth. If you survive Chem 3 and that doesn't make you want to run screaming from pre-med, then go ahead and major in bio. But if you did want a shot at business, you'll have to take Econ 100 and Stat 21 or 2.

Of course, you can actually be a pre-med in business. Here are the pre-med courses you need to take at Cal:

    Math 1 or 16A%26amp;B

    Chem 1A%26amp;B

    Chem 3A%26amp;B

    Physics 8A%26amp;B

    Bio 1A%26amp;B

    R%26amp;C A%26amp;B http://ls-advise.berkeley.edu/requiremen鈥?/a>

As long as you do all of these, you can major in ANYTHING. btw AP credits do not count towards medical school eligibility.
Changing from undergrad business at UC berkeley?
For a Berkeley kid, you're pretty dumb. Of COURSE you can change your major later on if you don't think business is for you. You can always change your major. Even in your senior year (although that would be pretty dumb because you'd have to pay a ton more for the extra classes). Most everyone going into college has no idea whatsoever about what they want to do for the rest of their lives. Everyone changes their major like, 5 times before they're sure. So yes, you can keep your options open. You're not the only one.
Changing majors is fairly easy at UCs for most majors except for what are known as impacted majors. These are majors lots of kids apply to, such as engineering, business (at most UCs), economics, and political science. Almost all biology majors are impacted.

I forget what the exact procedure is at UCB, but at most you simply fill out a form and have an advisor sign additional forms. You may not be able to switch first quarter, and your transfer will depend on your GPA. You may have to satisfy pre-reqs first. However, since you were admitted to an impacted major, you should have less trouble. Talk to your counselor or RA when you meet them for more information.

    Good luck!

EDIT: Holly, not every college allows their students to switch, at least not easily. For example, UCLA does their admissions by major and therefore switching is rather hard. At Cal Poly, you are more likely to be hit by a car than be able to switch majors.

    Question about changing majors?

I'm in my second year of college and I don't think that the major I am persuing is the ight one for me. Is it too late for me to change? Right now my major is in animation but for a while now I've been wanting to switch to a more scientific major. It's a pretty big change so I didn't want to just make a blind jump. Do a lot of students change their majors this late? What kind of process would be involved in changing? Would I need to take classes during the summer or something or would it be like starting over again from scratch?
    Question about changing majors?
You wouldn't believe how many students I get who change their major; many during their sophomore year, and some even as late as their junior year. At our university, to change majors you have to fill out a form (of course!) that lists the old major and the new major. The student also has to notify the dept of the old major to send their advising folder to the department of the new major.

I don't know what your school is like, but at ours, students spend most of the first two years taking their general education courses, most of which are interchangeable between majors. If your school is like that and you've been taking general education courses, then now is a good time to switch majors.

As far as taking classes during the summer, that is a good way to catch up.

    Good luck with your decision!
    Question about changing majors?
It's never too late. See an advisor and determine what courses you will need for your new major. Then make your change official and start taking the courses that are on the new plan. Hopefully by changing this early you won't lose too many credits.

    Best of luck!!
Do you have an advisor? Your advisor should be able to answer these questions. If not, you should see if the department your major of interest is under has a general advisor or a counselor who would also be able to help you. You might end up attending school longer than you intended, but the credits for general courses like English and math should transfer.

BTW, I changed majors after two years and I did fine. :)
There's a lot of money going into you being in college...you should study something you enjoy and think would help you find a job in the future. Therefore it's totally okay to change your major and it's never too late to do so. I knew a girl who changed her major from psychology to nursing in her senior year of college. Changing your major now might or might not mean a few extra classes for you. Since you're in your second year, you might still be taking core classes that are essential for all majors, so likely you wouldn't be losing out on much time. I doubt you would be starting from scratch. I changed my major two months into my second year of college and it was probably the best decision I made academically in college. I started out majoring in respiratory therapy, but hated math and chemistry and anatomy because they were so hard for me. I changed my major to psychology and I was much happier. I was more interested in the subject, the work came to me more naturally and I was just happier. If you have an advisor, talk to him or her about changing majors. Your advisor can tell you what you need to do to go about changing majors. If you don't have one, every academic department have advisors, just contact the advisor for your new major. You might have to take some classes in the summer at some point, but they are not bad at all. In fact, I took summer classes all but one summer I was in college and I was happy that I did. If you feel changing your major is the right thing for you to do, then go for it. Good luck!

    Husband keeps changing his major?

    Hi,

My husband is currently a Junior, at our local University and majoring in Computer Science. He is having difficulties, as some of the classes are very challenging. He pitched me the idea, of changing his major to Linguistics, Math, History, etc. In our time together, he has changed his mind about going to school full-time or working full-time. He has changed his mind about his area of study at least ten times, prior to electing the Computer major. He is currently attending classes full-time and working about 20 hours a week at a local retail store.

I am the primary bread winner, and am decently settled in my job (Social Services) . I am currently carrying 12 units, and will complete my B.A. in Social Services, in about three to four semesters. We have a mortgage, two kids, and one on the way. After a lot of soul searching, we compromised on our current solution. I'd complete my degree online, to allow more time for our kids and home while he'd focus on completing school while working minimal hours. The agreement is that once he completes his B.A., he will begin to seek out a stable %26amp; full-time job.

The question/concern is, how do I encourage him to realize that this back and forth is stressing me out? It is stressful to think that the two ed. years left will turn into four or even five years, if he keeps changing his mind. This whole semester may not even count towards the new major, depending on the reqs. I understand we all go through major changes %26amp; doubts, and I don't want him to be stuck in a major he hates. I tried talking to him about this, and he said that he is tired of going to school and wants to pick an easy major which will get him out faster.
    Husband keeps changing his major?
Tell him the truth, that you go to college to graduate and get a job. Switching majors does nothing to accomplish that and you love him and that is why you are working so hard now so that he can do this. He needs to be practical he is working to get a career, not to make his career being a student. Tell him once he completes his current major with a degree then it.

He is not going to have much of a career with an undergraduate degree in linguistics math or history. But, he can have a career with an undergraduate degree in computer science.

Part of being a husband and father means putting your loved ones first (as opposed to the easier major) and meeting your responsibilities to them. Life is not perfect, but you are at home and taking classes on line and raising 2 children with a 3rd on the way so he can work minimal hours and be a student. This is not fun and games but the lives of you and your children are involved in what he decides. He wants to pull out because the course work is %26quot;challenging%26quot;. Life is challenging and when it is, we need to work harder to meet the challenge not change majors or careers because of a few bumps along the road.
    Husband keeps changing his major?
Your husband may be afraid of the real world and its responsibilities so he could be hiding behind the security blanket of changing majors. If he can stay in school, he can postpone indefinitely the need to get a full time job and support his family!

Tell him a four-year degree is exactly that. Four years. He can change his mind when it comes to grad school, as a master's is only 30-36 credits.

    A master's is the new bachelor's.
This is why most people wait to get married till after college is over with.
He sounds very happy being supported by you...and won't change.
Your husband needs to stop screwing around. You've been very helpful and sympathetic to his needs and wants, you're even finishing your degree online to ease the stress... but at some point, enough is enough. He has to follow through on this degree in THIS particular major. I can tell you that every major is difficult in its own way. English and history majors have to write a thesis, which requires extensive research and dedication so to write them off as 'easy' is a mistake. If he changes his major YET AGAIN, he's just going to find an excuse later on for why that one is too hard.

He needs to stop making excuses, and being lazy. You're pulling more than your fair share right now. Take this as a chance to give your guy some tough love.
As a good partner, you should be supportive, but also be realistic in money matters. Pitch it to him, that switching your major is expensive, encourage him to take some time out of college and really figure it out and then go back, that way it will be less financially burdensome and he could help out with the newborn(since you have one along the way) and the other kids and will not be putting so much work on you. You are a mom not superwoman! So have a heart-to-heart conversation about making a decision and sticking with it. Understand if he needs more time to find a job. It is a tough job climate out there. Ask him if he is willing to do a part-time administrative position to help out with the bills and tuition payments(if he decides to stay in the switch mode of college education).

i'm really interested in both, maybe slightly more so in biomedical engineering... but i'm not sure. for their undergrad form, engineering majors have to write a few extra essays. seeing as these would be due jan 1st (i'm such a procrastinator... lol), should i just apply to human bio? is it hard to change majors at brown, especially into engineering?

I just wanted to know because I have changed my mind with certain schools that I applied to. ( example: changing to a Biochemistry major for my first choice instead of Engineering, etc.)

Some majors have higher standards than others. It could hurt your chances if your new major does have higher admission requirements./

What major changes occured in Russia after 1917?

What major changes occured in Russia after 1917 and why exaactly was 1917 a changing point?
What major changes occured in Russia after 1917?
Russian Revolution (1917) was a series of economic and social upheavals in Russia, involving first the overthrow of the tsarist autocracy, and then the overthrow of the liberal and moderate-socialist Provisional Government, resulting in the establishment of Soviet power under the control of the Bolshevik party. This eventually led to the establishment of the Soviet Union in 1922, which lasted until its dissolution in 1991.

So yeah, change from czarist system to a communist system.

But it wasn't immediate. They had to fend off the allies, then collectivise etc. This occurred during Stalin's reign as well...

but if you just want a list of what happened:

    - feb revolution, czar abdicates, provisional gov created

    - lenin returns to russia. created 10 state policies, such as %26quot;abolish state debt%26quot; - april thesis

    - the bolshviks held support of lower classes, provisional gov officially in charge

    - october revolution, bolsheviks overthrow provisional gov.

plus a lot of other things happened, but i won't go into s much detail.

a lot of things also happened in 1918.

they pulled out of the war in 1918, killed the royal family and civil war started between the royalists and the bolsheviks.

try looking it up on wikipedia, because a hell of a lot happened! but the best thing though, would be to buy a small gcse textbook, because tey literally list it and it's more thorough and easy to understand than wikipedia (i just checked out the wikipedia page).
What major changes occured in Russia after 1917?
Russian Revoution. The boleshevic (sp?)'s had the romanov family (where Czar nickolas and anistasia came from, you might know the story) done away with.

    idk if thats what your looking for, but try googling some of that. because i assume that you tried %26quot;changed in russian after 1917%26quot;
In the middle of WWI, the Czar was deposed by a rebellion, a provisional government was created, but later the comunists, leaded by Vladimir Ilich Ulianov, aka Lenin, seized power, pulverized the old feudal system and the barely beginning capitalism, and made comunism the system of the country

Also, they shot the Czar with his family, some other nobles as a bonus, and made peace with Germany to face the internal problems
The Russian Revolution. Basically, in a nutshell, world war one was going on and Russia was in debt from the war. So, the revolted against the current Czar of the country and started a revoultion. Commusium soon took hold and the Soviet Union was shortly formed afterwords.
To answer that would take a hell of a lot more space than you get on here.

It was the most important date in Russian History.

Sounds like an essay question to me. You need to do some research...

I stink at java, should i still major in computer science?

i just took my first computer science course, in introduction to java. ill admit that im absolutely terrible. ill probably get a C+ in the course, especially after that last test.

anyway, would it be smart to just change majors, or should i stick with it?
I stink at java, should i still major in computer science?
It depends. What got you interested in computer science in the first place? If it was %26quot;programming%26quot; in a joke language like, say, Basic (not that Java's that great, but that's another story...), then yeah, CS is probably not for you.

It's possible you just had a bad professor. Other stuff to consider: Did you enjoy the class? How hard did you work? Do you see yourself doing better in subsequent courses?

Unfortunately, understanding Java is the basis for learning a lot of the more marketable programming languages (such as C#), so if you really had a problem with it, it might be smart to change majors.
I stink at java, should i still major in computer science?
practice makes you better, try to solve practice excercises from books. that would help you out. the more you practice the better you will be.

java and c++ are practically similar so changing majors wont help you.

I'm thinking about changing my major to history...?
As just a history major you can probably get a job in archives or with government organizations like the Post Office. You can also be a librarian or work in a museum. Then there's always writing. I plan to teach and continue my education to get a PHD. Universities can help fund your research.I also got a job offer from the IRS as a tax auditor, but I'm also a Realtor so that helped.

Is a major in Russian and minor in East European Studies good for law school?

I'm far too deep in to change majors now....
Is a major in Russian and minor in East European Studies good for law school?
Yes. If you have good grades, and good recommendations, and take a few law courses, have great LSATS, you'll be fine.

I have friends that have gotten into and graduated from great law schools with majors ranging from English Literature to Peace and Global Studies.

Pre-Law Majors are only good if you actually are 100% sure you're going to Law School- and how many 20 year olds do you know who REALLY know that about themselves? Not many. Your major is great because if you get into law school and decide you hate it- you have something to fall back on. Also, The Major and Minor may help you specialize in international law in the future.

Good luck on those LSATs! :)
Is a major in Russian and minor in East European Studies good for law school?
    no
Nothing wrong with it. You can major in anything you'd like and, if your grades are good and your LSAT is strong, get into a good law school. It's just that doing an academic major where you do a lot of writing can help prepare you for law school. Your major/minor combo seems to fit that. It will not be an issue.

What are major dates for changes in chicks?

My two chicks are growing, i know, but they don't seem to be changing that much. do you know anytime when a major change occurs, like maybe breaking of voice or something.
What are major dates for changes in chicks?
    go to this website

What are major dates for changes in chicks?
Well the chick egg hatches 21 days after laying.

It is born and takes roughly 2 hours for the feathers to dry.

At 7 days they need/ start eating grit to help their gizzrd properly function.

At about 20 weeks old the chicks or hens now start laying.

The Voice of a hen will get deeper as they get older but it is very gradual

This is about all that happens in a Chicks lifetime
Chicks will be all feathered out at about the age of 4wks.

They will maintain the peeping voice until about the age of 3 months when you will start to realize the change in their voice and YES,it does kinda %26quot;crack%26quot;.

Cockeriels esp will sound as if they have a hoarse throat as they begin to get their crowing voice. . . .Pullets have a noticeable change but not as dramatic as the cockeriel.

Once they get their adult voices is when you will quit seeing much change in them which is generally at the 6 month old stage. They are considered to be full grown at this age.

Does it waste time if i change major?

    Hello there,

Im in Biology Phd program now and it will be my sencond year in Fall Semester. But I find i totally hate bench work and i regret choosing it though i still love science. It makes me unhappy in the lab.

I really want to change but how?

I myself want to take Business undergraduate program and then master program. i think maybe it will cost me 5 years totally as well as the Bio-Phd will cost me if i continue.

However, some of my friend say:PhD is a status symbol in the bussiness world and i should continue bio and when im in third year of the Phd program i can take master study in business at the same time. It is too old for me to take undergraduate classes.

i dont like to waste my time in the bench work...i want do business...how can i do? which major shall i take? business? finace?MBA?.....

    Thank you!
Does it waste time if i change major?
How about Major in Business and minor in communications?

    they always go good together.

I don't think your going to waste too much time. you said this fall is going to be your 2nd year? So your not going to waste any credit hours. Most of the first year classes are general education anyway. Do what you know you would be happy doing because you should be happy with your job.

    Good Luck
Does it waste time if i change major?
It is not a waste. In fact, you might have a leg up over most. I would NOT recommend a business undergrad. Go for the MBA, especially since you were admitted to a PhD program which speaks volumes alone. Just make sure you can eloquently articulate WHY you are changing to business. Not having a background in business course means you will have to take some pre-reqs so an undergrad degree would add too much time and repeated material. Also, MBA programs tend to choose not off of GPA / Work / GMAT, but the TYPE of student. Too many consultants or engineers wouldn't work but Biology?? How many have that going into a MBA... ups your chances.
I don't think it is a waste of time ever to learn things. If you intend to learn something (especially if it is something you like) then it is good.
you want to change your major for a good reason, to you.

for you to continue in a major you are not happy with

    THAT IS WASTING TIME

sure, it would have been better if you had made up your mind

in the begining, but you have to be happy with your choice.

cut your losses and get on with what it is you really want to do
If you don't like what you're doing, change your major. The worst thing you can possibly do is to continue out of obligation and be miserable for the rest of your life. I changed my major 21 credit hours away from a BBA in management, in spite of the fact that it meant an entire extra year and the potential loss of a lucrative scholarship. The result?

    I've never been happier.
if u really hate it then change it.
You have to do what makes you happy. I can tell you from experience that switching majors can cost you a lot of extra time and in some cases you could possibly end up without a degree at all. It sounds like the best thing you can do it go ahead and finish your PHd and then get your Masters in Business. If you are still confused consider talking to an advisor at your college.

For example say you were not raised or lived a life doing something how and why do you introduce something. Can anything, I am just curious about the happening moments when people want an bring something more into their lifestyle.
How do you go about change? Major change in your life?
Courage to make a major life style is beyond most peoples capabilities, but some reach out and go for it. Courage and faith in God and yourself will carry you thru, Faith and Hope are big words that most people can say but really aren't going to put them to the test, but thats how you make a major change.
How do you go about change? Major change in your life?
I am not quite sure what your question is asking, but my answer is that when you change something major in your life then it takes time to adjust to it. Depending on what it is sometimes you will do things the old way and then remember how you are suppose to do it.

Should I feel guilty for changing majors?

So I am currently in my first year at college and am a mechanincal engineer. However, I was thinking of doing chemical engineer and changed up my courses a lil bit. And finally, I am deciding to switch to civil engineer, which would put me back a lil bit... I just feel guilty for constantly changing my mind since i will most likely being going to school for 5 years instead of 4 :/ thanks
Should I feel guilty for changing majors?
No, of course not. Well over half of all students change their major at least once, and many change it twice.

Furthermore, taking 5 years is quite common, especially for people who switched majors. It's not like you're taking longer because you failed your courses, it's just because you decided you wanted something different for yourself.

If you really feel guilty, then you can get a part-time job. Just be careful, since it will be hard to stay on top of Engineering classes while working and school has to come first.
Should I feel guilty for changing majors?
Just promise to pay back your parent when you start working and keep your promise.

I've been thinking about changing my major, but I'm unsure as to what. I just don't feel I'm doing well?

I wanted to be a doctor, but I can't seem to get a 4.0 no matter how hard I try. I have about a 3.0, but I know a lot of medical schools won't accept you unless you have a 3.5 or higher.

I was wondering if anyone knew where I could find accurate online aptitude tests.

I don't know what I hate or what I love. I'm so lost.
I've been thinking about changing my major, but I'm unsure as to what. I just don't feel I'm doing well?
If you really want to be a doctor, take a few additional courses until you get your GPA up to a 3.5. I'm not saying take the most difficult courses you can find on campus, but take something that you're certain you'll pass with an A. For example, take a studio art course. Find your artistic self and boost your GPA at the same time!

I'm considering changing my major to Psychology...?

because I am extremely interested in mental disorders and cognitive processes, but I am wondering what type of career I could have with a degree in Psychology. I've heard there's really nothing for Bachelors, but are there more choices for Masters, or do you really need a Doctorates?
I'm considering changing my major to Psychology...?
In the health care market of the near future (i.e., when you would be practicing), a master's degree will likely be both more versatile and more readily reimbursable than a doctoral degree. You are correct in surmising that bachelor's degree in psychology will get your virtually nowhere.

Obama is planning to socialize medicine in the USA. Socialized medicine, of course, necessitates rationing of health care services. In other countries, this has historically meant that services end up being provided by practitioners who can independently provide the treatment for the lowest price. For psychotherapy in the USA, that will fall to the master's level practitioner.

This will be true, however, only if Obama's plan actually covers psychotherapy as we practice it today. There is ample evidence to suggest that Obama's plan will provide coverage only for %26quot;serious mental illness%26quot; (i.e., SMI). SMI generally includes disorders in the psychotic spectrum (e.g., schizophrenia) and/or those treated largely (or solely) with medications.

If it does come to pass that Obama's plan covers only SMI, then that is a game changer. That means that the field will revert back to its initial days, when psychiatrists (i.e., M.D.s) ruled the roost, and only the very, very wealthy could afford psychotherapy. Psychotherapy as we know it today, will be on a self-pay basis.

The potential upside to this scenario for psychologists (you'll need a Ph.D. for this license, among many other requirements), is that there is a movement underway to secure prescription privileges for psychologists. Legislation has already passed in two states (i.e., LA and NM), and is pending in several others. In this scenario, psychologists who have the prerequisite training to provide prescriptions will become the most sought after practitioners, because they can be paid at a lower rate to provide services identical to those of psychiatrists (i.e., writing scripts for anti-psychotics covered under Obama's plan).

Even prior to the implementation of socialized medicine (which would spell disaster for the field, by the way), however, you would be able to practice independently in every state at the master's level. Rates of reimbursement vary considerably, and depend on whether or not (and with whom) you are contracted by behavioral health managed care organizations.

Best of luck to you in your future educational and vocational endeavors,

    ~Dr. B.~
I'm considering changing my major to Psychology...?
Don't get too caught up in the headline we call a major. A well-rounded person has many intense interests in a life-time. By all means, explore them, but explore them from where you are now. If it is the interest which is meant to be your vocation, the path will open as you go.

I stink at java programming, should i still major in computer science?
What is the reason you got a C+ in the

    Introduction to JAVA ?

If you find it difficult to understand the logic

and language structure then its time for you

    to move to another field.

But if you can comprehend JAVA given

more study time and better learning

    materials ( books / references ) then

    stay with the course.
I would have thought you would have received a C++ or C#. Boo! Yeah, I know...bad joke.

I have a B.A. in Computer Science and I find it odd that your first CS course is in Java. That is the wrong approach. You should learn C+ or C++ first, as this is the basis of most of today's computer languages including Java. If you are passionate and interested in becoming a programmer, I suggest continue with the major. But, I would strongly suggest taking a more basic course and speaking with a counselor or someone from the CS department.

My first CS class was programming in C. Then, I moved to C++, Postscript, Java, Javascript and ASP.

Change major from finance to marketing?

I'm a Junior in college and my major is finance. I'm taking my first-ever finance class now and I'm already stressed out... I didn't do well in my accounting classes and that's probably why... So I'm thinking to change my major from finance to something else in the business area such as marketing, information system, decision science, etc. I would just like to know which one of them would be easier than finance and would bring me stable jobs with high pays. Thank you.
Change major from finance to marketing?
I would stick with finance for the sake of future jobs. Only change if you really (and i mean really) cannot understand any of it. Marketing and management are probably in the top 5 most picked majors so when you graduate, you an imagine how many people you have to compete with to get a job. Not to say that with finance, you wont compete with others but its much more crowded with marketing. I am confused on mine. Was thinkign about international business (spanish) but i hear that companies are likely to hire europeans b/c they are more fluent in other languages I would go speak to a counselor (i hope yours are more helpful than mine)

I am accepted to University of Northern Colorado. I will be a transfer student in Fall 2009. I go for orientation on Monday. I have already completed about 50 credit hours of many different classes that will transfer. I want to change my major from Secondary Education--Social Science to Elementary Education though. Do you think there will be a problem? Will it effect me registering for classes when I go to orientation?

    Thank You!
    Changing my major in college?
No. I don't think there will be any prob. As you have already completed the requisite credit hours and you want to change from secondary to Elementary Education, which is no problem.

How do you go about changing your college major?

I am a h.s senior and i recently had a change of heart in what i wanted to do. How do you go about the process? Is it possible to change it before you start? will it change the decision about my admission. I have already planned to go to UIC
How do you go about changing your college major?
It depends on whether the new major is within the same college or not. For example, if you were Bio and you want to do English now - it's a straightforward process that you can do after you start classes. If you want to change Colleges, however, for example from Liberal Arts and Sciences to Architecture, or similar, then you should call the office of admissions BEFORE the application deadline - 312.996.4350, or, depending on the program it might be more difficult. In particular for Art and Design and Architecture.
How do you go about changing your college major?
Wait till you register for classes.. It will probably be at orientation..You will most likely have a chance to meet with an advisor..they can change your declared major... Admissions never expects students to have their major set in stone so don't worry about it. Many students change their minds all the way until their Junior/senior year.
Usually there is just a form that you have to fill out and submit to the school. You should check the school's website!
Wait until you've been admitted. You have to fill out a change of major form. State your GPA, college year, name, your current major, and that is it, I believe.

I've been thinking about changing my major. Where can I find some career aptitude tests to figure out what to?

change it to. I want to be a doctor, but I can't 4.0 my classes. So, I'm at a lost on what to do. Help!
I've been thinking about changing my major. Where can I find some career aptitude tests to figure out what to?
You need to consider why you want to be a doctor. Is it because you want wealth? If so, don't bother. The strenuous years of education will take a toll on you and you won't do well if you're not interested in the sciences. Your major doesn't even matter for med school, you need these courses:

    * General biology

    * Physics with lab

    * General chemistry (inorganic chemistry) with lab

    * Organic chemistry with lab

    * Calculus

    * English

You'll really need a GPA of at least 3.5 in undergraduate.

Unless you have a complete donnor car you may have a hard time the shifter assembly is different too along with wiring to the trans and ECM differences and spedometer and ABS systems will not be calibrated for the different gear ratios. It can be done but you may run into plenty of differences you have not even thought of.

Should I continue with Nursing School or Change major to Radiologic Technologist?

I am in my 1st semester of Nursing school. I like the classes and always wanted to become a nurse however, I have become interested in Radiologic Technologist, preferably Ultrasound tech. I have read that this is an up and coming postion in the healthcare industry. Also, they make almost the same as a Nurse according to Department of Labor and Salary.com

I dont want to get too far into my major and change my mind, also spending money.
Should I continue with Nursing School or Change major to Radiologic Technologist?
Here's one option, after nursing school, you can get an ultrasound certificate, takes about 9-12 months. So, you can do that if you don't want to completely drop out of nursing. I'm saying this because I wouldn't recommend dropping nursing (unless you're certain) because DMS schools are sometimes hard to get into. I've thought the same thing. Good luck!
Should I continue with Nursing School or Change major to Radiologic Technologist?
Go for what you will be more comfortable in and enjoy the most or think is the easiest :) We need alot of ppl in the medical field thought. Hope i helped.
You might want to try %26amp; %26quot;interview%26quot; and shadow an actual ultrasound tech to see if this is really what you are thinking about before you change. Most rad techs I know are very happy in their jobs and there isa fair amount of variety %26amp; diversity on places of employment %26amp; things to do.

  • Change major to landscape architecture?

I need advice!!! I am going to be a sophomore in college and currently am a chemistry major. I am thinking about changing my major to landscape architecture but I don't know if this is the right choice for me. I am not talented artistically but with a good work ethic, I can make do. I am afraid that not being artistically gifted will put me at a disadvantage with this major. What do you think? I am really really organized, love being outside and gardening which is why I think this major may be the right one.
    Change major to landscape architecture?
Give it a try! Even if it doesn't work out or you don't like it, you still have plenty of time to find another major. Some schools don't even make you declare a major until you're a junior, so don't worry about switching. Besides, working hard at something you actually enjoy will be so much more rewarding for you than working hard on something you can't stand. With all the computer graphics programs now, I don't even think that you need to be artistically inclined, because the computer can draw it for you. Maybe you should talk with the head of the department and see what they think, but I'm pretty sure it won't be a big deal.

What happens if i change my major?

OK so i got accepted into UCR and the major i chose was business economics but i just chose it because it had the word business in it. I want to get into marketing and i was doing some browsing and UCR has a marketing program and i want to get into that.

I saw UCR has a major for business for business informatics, i was wondering if that was the major i needed to chose?

If not what is the major i need to chose?

Also, i feel foolish for asking this, but they can not do anything for me wanting to change majors right?
What happens if i change my major?
In many cases you will be allowed to change majors. in a few cases where the entrance requirements for a different major are different or more severe you may not meet the requirements and thus will be denied the major./

Changing majors at University of the Pacific?

I was accepted as an Environmental Science major for Fall 2010, and I was wondering if it is easy to change my major? Could I change to Pre-Pharmacy or Pre-Dental later, and how?

Contact your counselor or the admissions office./
Changing majors at University of the Pacific?
Yes! me too! I was accepted as a Business Administration major but I kind of want to change to Pre-Pharmacy or something else. Is that possible? Could we still get into their advantage program?

What do I major in for audio/visual interests?

I really like editing audio and video, and I'd like to make a career out of it. However, I'm not sure what to major in. Currently, I'm majoring in communications, but I really would like to change majors. I'd like to edit and author DVDs and video clips along with some audio stuff, but I'd prefer not to have to do a ton of hours of math credit.
What do I major in for audio/visual interests?
You need to check out the fine arts department, more specifically film. See what courses/majors are offered there. I know a bunch of people in art school in the film department, they learn to use Final Cut, all of that stuff. Not all schools offer that kind of major, though.
What do I major in for audio/visual interests?
    Multimedia or Mass Communications..
Multimedia. I also did some audio manipulation in Digital Media or sometimes called Electronic Imaging - but I would say more like multimedia.

Should i reconsider being a history major?

I plan to be a history major but i dont know what i can do with it. I don't want to be a teacher and the job outlook for historians is not good. should i change majors? what can i major that involves some history, government, foreign cultures/countries, art?
Should i reconsider being a history major?
you should major in what you want to major in, what is interesting to you, and what you will be happy with studying. i was an english major and a history minor and i can say that i would have killed myself if i had had to take business courses or a ton of math or something because that does not interest me at all. i have gone onto a successful job with the government and am planning on going to a top 10 law school in the fall AND i scored higher than all the people i know that were pre-law because english and history served as such a strong basis for critical thinking. trust me, you will be happy you majored in it, if you truly love the subject, if not then reconsider.
Should i reconsider being a history major?
There is always Law school and to be quite honest there are plenty of jobs out there that don't care what you major in college in - they just care that you have a diploma.

Good Luck (from a former poly sci/history major)!!!
All the people that I know who were history majors and did not go on to teach never found fulfilling jobs. They work at either an office as a secretary or at the same job they did while attending college. It's an okay degree to have to go on to law school, but if that is your plan I would switch to English or Philosophy where there is more writing and critical thinking involved.
International relations/business would be a good option. You would encounter all the above things mentioned, and you can specialise in whatsoever you choose. This, however, might mean that you would need to transfer to your school's school of business.

Should kids be allowed to have a vote in major family decisions?

I coach many kids and I give them all a vote on how we run our team. Ultimately the coaches make the final choice but the kids like having input. Should kids have the same input when deciding on family things like moving, school changes, major furniture purchases? Does it prepare them to be adults or are they being taught to be equals to adults? Let me know..doing a little research here....
Should kids be allowed to have a vote in major family decisions?
I think the opinion of kids is very important and should be considered in a major family decision. I mean ultimately, only the parents can decide whether or not to move or change kids schools, but they need to take into account how that decision will affect their children.

As far as furniture purchases and things, my kids always go with us (mostly because I hate the idea of leaving them with a babysitter.) so they do have some say in what we buy. Generally we usually come to a consensus, but if we don't that ok (my husband would kill me if I bought a pink sofa like my daughter wanted! hehe). Generally speaking though, we ask our kids if they like something that we plan on purchasing, and if they don't then WHY don't they like it. I think it helps us get a better understanding if what will be best for our family, and also helps their cognitive thinking skills.

And by the way, What's wrong with seeing kdis as equals? I mean, I'm not going to let my kids stay home alone of cook a meal or anything like that, but I do believe that they deserve the same amount of respect and consideration that adults do. After all, everyone is equal. Just because you have a boss, does that make him better than you? I don't think so. I think kids should be treated as equals and given the respect and consideration that they deserve. After all, they give you respect and love, why not return the favor?
Should kids be allowed to have a vote in major family decisions?
maybe a little.as long as they are respectful and listen to their parents.
yes i believe you should let the kids have a say in what happens in family decisions. as long as they are aware that the final decision is the parents. and you never know they may have a different view than yours and it might be really good. plus i feel it helps them developed for when they are an adult and have to make hard decisions.
My parents always asked our opinion. Not that it made much difference. But we felt like we were helping.
Yes and no. A team and a family might have some points in common, but it's not a fantastic analogy.

Parents are probably trying to make the best decision for their families (children included) when deciding on certain matters. Parents should discuss the issues with their children, but allowing a child to dictate and choose a decision such a decision as the family moving to another state to take a better job might not be the best time for a child to excercise their equality. Certain decisions need to be made for the family as a whole, not just for %26quot;the children%26quot; (thus society's %26quot;Child King%26quot; problem.)

As for furniture purchases, again that depends. If it's for their rooms, their input is normal and as isn't a life altering decision I would say %26quot;why not?%26quot; with the exception that their choice is reasonable.

Even for the family car, maybe the child could give their color preference -- a blue car over a red car, but asking them what brand of car or even the choice of two cars that differ greatly in gas mileage and how much power might not be within their comprehension level.

Sometimes allowing children to make their own decisions AND live with the consequences (without an adult fixing the problem) are better lessons than allowing them to influence all major family decisions.
Yes. Children should be asked to vote. This surves the following purposes:

    1. The childred become independent.

    2. They start to think and would encounter a similar situation in future in a batter way.

    3. The children gain confidence because they realise that they too have a say in the family.

    4. The children associate voting with responsibility and are careful of doing things that might bring a bad name to the family as a whole.

    5. The decisions that the children take are their independent decisions. They can't blame the parents later.

Having said that, children are children so they should not be the %26quot;veto powers.%26quot; They should have their say and things should be done in their best interest. This should be explained to them.

    Hope this helps. Merry Christmas!
Your right good for you on letting the kids have there say!

Kids are people too,and like you say ultimately you guys make the decisions....

The bottom line is kids are just small versions of us,

BUT you treated them as people, that alone is one of the best learning experience you can give them.

If they grow up with the confidence you are giving to them now by allowing them to have their say,or their feeling

Well basically how do you feel when you have been shown respect?
They definately should have some input, afterall, they are part of the family.
I came from a family that expected you just trust their judgement and do as they said. However I like to give my children options but not in the way that they rule the roost. It also depends on their age as to what you allow them to partake in.

I think children should be considered in major decisions as what you do affects their life also. However as you said, mum and dad get final say. I wouldn't let them dictate where we moved to but things like which schools they like and what furniture they want for their rooms has a huge impact on their life, that of course you want to know how they feel about it.

We are having another baby and our older child has already told us what names she likes and I tell her that I will listen to any name suggestions she has but at the end of the day mummy and daddy will make the final decision. Little things like that boost their confidence and self esteem and does help them to be better adults and decision makers.

Giving children options (within reason and supervision) and allowing them to make mistakes, makes them better adults.
pending on there age and ability to make the right choice yes i think so but in the end it is up to the parent
Well, if a parent is getting a new job and the family is being transferred to another location, then, no, the kids really can't say yay or nay about it. The new job can mean more stability, and ultimately it's up to the parents to make that decision.

There are smaller decisions that the kids can be a part of -- the furniture purchase would be something to consider having them be involved in, as long as they are old enough to make a rational decision.
I think thier opinion should be considered in the overall decision making of the parents. Considered only - the parents must decide what is best for the whole family not just one child.
I feel the kids should have input...i mean its there family too, but I think certain decisions are out of there control,ie. if my husband has a job transfer arn't really open for discussion. we understands the kids wont want to move, but if they learn to be flexible as kids that will help them as adults. as fars as if we get a new sofa we might ask them do u like this color or this one.
It depends on what age. I mean asking a 5 year old for input is really useless.

I would say that anything over 10 should be involved with big family decisions. And teenagers should definatley know whats going on in the family.

I think it makes it easier for them to understand why certain things they can and can not have if for example they know the family sitution. It makes them more prepared to deal with their own futures. But i do not believe in un necessarily burdening them with too much adult stuff either.
I don't think so. There's a reason adults are the heads of households -- they have the most life experience and are therefore the most able to make these important decisions. Children's role is to learn by the examples of their parents, and when they become adults, they can have the same privileges and responsibilities.
No, not a good idea, they need to learn good decision-making skills by observing adults performing well, not by being an actual part of it themselves. It's critical that you don't teach children that the world revolves around them, that their preferences are tantamount in all decisions. That's not even the nature of reality in adulthood, so why teach them it is in childhood?
Kids should have input into anything major. Calling it a vote however puts it on an equal basis. For instance, parents lose their jobs, can't afford the home they are in, the 5 kids vote to stay where they are.... obviously mom and dad just got out voted, but the reality of the situation is that a move is necessary.

    Input yes, vote no.
i disagree with the majority. it's fine to give kids input, but not a %26quot;vote%26quot; on things that they still have no basis for evaluating. sure, i'd consider the impact on my kid of moving to a new school or new state, and I'd even ask their opinions if they were more than 5 or so, but i wouldn't give them a %26quot;vote%26quot;. a kid is not going to %26quot;vote%26quot; based on whether the family is going to have enough money to put dinner on the table if they don't take the new job; they're going to vote based on whether the new house is blue or red or whether there were a lot of squirrels in the yard when you visited. kids are focused on the short-term. adults are much better positioned to evaluate the things that will serve the child's long-term interest. ultimately that should prevail when making major family decisions.

i once witnessed a conflicted mom asking her 2-year-old if she thought her mommy and daddy should make her a brother or sister. it wasn't an idle question, either ... apparently the kid was the tie-breaker between the spouses. give me a break! how would a 2-year-old without a sibling (or even with one) have any basis for knowing if they'd want a sibling or not?? that's an adult decision (for which, among other things, you take into account how it will impact the 2-year-old).

let little kids decide if they're going to wear the blue shirt or the green one, play blocks or play trains, take soccer or gymnastics. let the adults make the adult decisions (in the best interests of their kids).
Depending on their ages, I think it would be imperative that children be involved in some of the decisions. Moving, for example is a prime decision because it allows them to tell you how they feel about the move. Make a list of pros and cons, that way it may be something to look forward to and not dread. As for school changes, same thing applies, deciding on the school teaches them about choices. I would like to think that involving children in some of the decisions would prepare them for adulthood. As for major furniture purchases, that would be up to you, if you feel that they are ready and mature enough for helping in those areas, go for it.
No not a vote in the decision but defiantly a full discussion on it where we are asking their opinions and thoughts on it and we let them know we take their feelings into account. We just moved to Europe and had many of these with our children over this move. I do not think that we are treating them as adults but teaching them to think things out as they see the process of making big decisions. It also empowers them which is very good for children you would be surprised at the issues that come from children feeling small, unimportant, unheard, and powerless. It is always in their best interest to participate in big decisions even if they do not have an actual vote, knowing they are being heard is enough.
My kids get to let us know what they think %26amp; we try to make decisions that leave everyone feeling satisfied. But, the adults always have the final say in all decisions.
Depends on how major. In choosing the family dog, yes. In deciding family financial matters their opinion matters but the parents make the final decision.
Not furniture, unless it is for their room. They can have input on moving and school changes, but not the final decision. This advice also depends on how old your kids are. If they are teens, definitely let them voice their opinions and give them your reasons for a major family change. Not only will they be more cooperative, but you could get some valuable input for your decision making.
Yes, they should. I believe that if something affects the kid, they ought to be able to have a say in the matter. In the end it IS the parent's decision, but the kids should at least have some input.
Yes i think kids should have a vote or input in family decisions. IE where to go on vacation, whats for dinner, what to wear when you do the family picture, definatly furniture purchases.

As far as moving and school changes no, i dont agree there. Those are desisions left to the adults who are actually paying those bills, and school changes have to flow with the home unless there is an issue at the current school.

Yes i do think it helps children to develope their critical thinking skills, i think that ie helps them learn what they will be faced with as an adult.
yes, they are part of the family.for some decisions kids shouldnt have choices like if the family is moving or not because usually you are moving for a good reason.for thinks like buying furniture you can ask what they like best.i think letting them make decisions will help them when they are adults.
yea kids do have the right to vote as well as an adult they are human and sometimes kids make more sence then adults i fully suport what you are doing by treating them human.
    yes
They should be consulted, but not have voting rights per se. The discussion should include financial considerations, as that makes kids more aware of things like budgets.

Too many parents make such decisions, then spring them on the kids with no warning. That is wrong and unfair.

Should I do what I love? or what I like? changing major?

I loveeeeeeeeeeee ACCOUNTING! however, my grades are in my accounting class was not so great---one of my classes brought my GPA WAYYY DOWN! I'm taking finance, Im not feeling challenged, I like it tho! I was thinking doing finance undergrad and doing accounting in grad school--good idea? no, maybe. I do want to purse an degree accounting--taxation in grad school.. do you guys think this is a goood Idea? Im not sure--Im so confused. I need advice---oh, btw---I registered for all my finance courses for the fall!
Should I do what I love? or what I like? changing major?
Just do what you think is the absolute right thing for you to do. Make sure it is something that you can picture yourself doing for the rest of your life. College and choosing a major is so stressful, it took me four different majors and finally on my fifth one I am happy with it. I don't know what to tell you about your accounting class, maybe retake it? And just study harder for the accounting classes b/c they will always be hard. Why not challenge yourself and major in both :) Good luck!

I'm thinking of changing my major to nursing. Anyone in nursing school right now?

Do you think it will be easy or hard to find a nursing job within the next few years?

I know its not gonna be easy work but on a scale of 1-10 how hard do you think it was?
I'm thinking of changing my major to nursing. Anyone in nursing school right now?
    it is competitive.

since you are already in college you probably have a lot of the clusters filled. Speak with the pre-nursing adviser at your college and see where you stand.

I took all of my electives, pre reqs, and cluster courses except a few before the program, keep a high gpa--if you have some lower grades retake them.

They say it is hard to get in, I'm not sure how many people didn't make it when I got in but I had no problem and got in the first time. I think people try to scare people seriously.

Right now work hard, once you are in the program work hard but remember that C+=RN, that sounds bad but I was use to always getting the A and being the best in all of my classes but when I got in the program everyone was the best in all of their classes and everyone always got the A. You can't flip out over a B, maybe you don't but I know I have seriously stressed over 2 points. Your grades do not define you (after you get in, right now they do, lol).

Keep your sanity, I will have no breaks until Christmas, I will probably be locked up in a psych ward by then which is fitting because this fall I will be doing my psych nursing and med/surg clinicals. So I will fit right in.

top ten differences between nursing school and hell

    1. You wouldn鈥檛 tell a friend to go to nursing school.

    2. You know there are hot women/men in Hell.

    3. You only have to sell your soul to get into Hell.

    4. People smile in Hell.

    5. Hell is forever. Nursing school just seems like it.

    6. At least you can sleep in Hell.

    7. You can鈥檛 flunk out of Hell.

    8. It is more fun getting into Hell.

    9. Everyone has heard of Hell.

    10. It doesn鈥檛 rain in Hell.

EDIT: I'm not done yet so I don't know how easy it will be to find work, but I am assuming not that hard, you may not be able to get a job in your town/city but there should be work within a 50 mile radius somewhere. But I am sure I will find work closer than that. My suggestion keep going back to school and get the highest degree that you can.
I'm thinking of changing my major to nursing. Anyone in nursing school right now?
Nursing programs are extremely competitive - 700 applicants for 60 positions is typical. You generally need to have most of the non-nursing core subjects completed with good a GPA to gain admission.

Right now a lot of hospitals have cut back hiring in uncertain times and unclear government guidance from the Obama administration - One day he says he is going to increase government spending , the next he is cutting hospital reimbursements, then it is some form of nationalization. Plain fact is that he has created far more uncertainly in the industry than the economic downturn has.

However, this should be resolved by the time you graduate. Long term prospects are good for nursing as the population continues to age and demand increases - however work conditions will likely get worse in coming decades.

Is it easy to get a job - as a new graduate? Not always unless you are willing to relocate to the areas most desperate and usually with the lowest pay and worst conditions. With some experience you can usually find a job, but not always in the exact area of care you would prefer.

In the last 5 years ease of nursing employment with 1 being the easiest, it was a 2-3, currently it is a 5-8 depending on where you are - the future depends a lot on what the Obama administration does. When you suggest a complete alteration of healthcare you tend to strongly disrupt the system and only time will tell exactly what is going to emerge from Washington - a good, a bad, or a horrible new system. So anyone who actually says they know what conditions are going to be like down the road is a false prophet.
Nursing is a great opportunity for you since many chances come on by to you. finding work is dependent upon your area. in california for example, there is a big need for nurses and any fresh grad will certainly come by a position real easily.

some areas are also cutting back on the nurses being hired. it all depends on your location and what the president and his administration has in store for us.

but before you can talk about finding jobs like that, you better think about how hard it is in getting into nursing school. in my university, there were about 1,500+ applicants for 80 spots. can you imagine the ridiculous competiton? i mean, they turned down people who had GPAs of 3.9-4.0s. good luck in whatever you choose your path to be in. i'd say in california on a scale, 1-3 would most probably be the chance of getting a job as a nurse.
No matter the current economic or political climate, the fact remains that we are facing an increased demand for medical care which leads of course to a demand for medical workers, especially nurses. We have an aging baby boomer population, a nation of obese people with outrageous rates of diabetes and heart disease and lung disease, we have drug addicts and teen pregnancy rates that are rising.

We also have an aging nurse population - and more nurses are going to be retiring in the next decade than there are new RNs coming into the profession. Schools aren't increasing their admissions because they simply don't have the facilities or staff or resources to do so.

Some areas of the country have been slow to feel this hit and don't have as much of a demand for RNs. But other areas do still have shortages to the point where they are recruiting out of state and offering huge hiring bonuses and relocation packages. There are jobs out there if you're willing to make some sacrifices, and in a few years the whole nation will be feeling the shortage and more jobs will open up everywhere.

It might be difficult as a new grad in the next couple of years, but once you gain some experience and a few years have past you will not have any issues with job security.
In most schools, you can't just %26quot;change your major.%26quot; You must apply for and be accepted into nursing degree programs - it is very competitive.
