Is it hard to change majors at UC Davis? For example, going from an Env. Science major to a biochem. major?

Would this be difficult to do at UC Davis, assuming you have good grades!
Is it hard to change majors at UC Davis? For example, going from an Env. Science major to a biochem. major?
It should not be that hard. If you are changing majors within the same college then it just needs to be signed by one person, but if you need to change colleges first then majors you also need a dean to sign it. It is not too difficult, but you can go see a counselor and they can give you all th info you need, including what classes you need for a specific major

Assuming that you have good grades, no. You just have to figure out what new classes you have to take. Talk to your adviser/counselor for official ways to change majors.

What major changes occurred in the civil rights movement in the mid-1960's?
C'mon. You can Wikipedia this. It's not that hard and it's something you should know. This is American history!

1960 = The Civil Rights Era. This is the era where Martin Luther King did his speech. A result of the movement was the 1964 Civil Rights Act. The Civil Rights Act changed %26quot;BY LAW%26quot; banned de jure segregation and other types of discrimination. Of course, that did not get rid of racism. Although de jure segregation was not allowed, racist beliefs were still held by many afterwords.

The major change that is taking place in the Arab world can someone help me?

According to “Free at Last?” the major change that is taking place in the Arab world at the beginning of the twenty- first century is that:

    a. European powers are now dominating what were once independent Arab lands.

    b. the United States has become involved in Arab affairs.

    c. Arab countries are becoming more independent of outside rule and able to confront their own problems.

    d. Arab countries are finally beginning to ask for help from Western nations.

Hopefully it will be 'E'-The US will nuke Iran, turn it into an inferno and get rid of suicide bombers for at least a while.

How do you feel about changing your major in college?

Before college, when I was trying to decide what I wanted to study in college, I narrowed down my choices to engineering and becoming a police officer. I felt like I would be happy with either one, and I picked engineering, because I really liked the concept, and it seemed like the right thing to do. Even though I picked engineering, law enforcement was still in the back of my mind, and I still thought about it often. Taking introductory engineering classes has made me realize that I would like that, but I would see it more of as a hobby than as a job. I feel you really have to be passionate about your job. Today I had the epiphany that I have to do what I feel is the right thing to do, and that means changing my major to law enforcement.

What do you think? Is it a good idea to change? How do I tell my parents that I want to change my major? I hope they will understand, since many college students end up changing their major at some point. I am a freshman in college by the way
How do you feel about changing your major in college?
This is very normal. It is almost impossible to ask people what they want to do before they have had a chance to take any courses in the subject matter. And, as a freshman, you probably won't lose any time in making the switch. If you had waited a year or two, it might have taken you longer to graduate.

Assuming you don't come from a family which is anti-law enforcement, they should not have a problem with the concept. Expect, though, that often when we tell people we are going to do one thing, they start to think of us in those terms, and when we switch, they often object more because it flies in the face of the image they have developed of you than because their is anything wrong with the new direction.
How do you feel about changing your major in college?
    I'm almost certain that most college students change their major at least once. I've changed my major more than once! Just tell your parents, they probably expect you to change your major. When I told mine, every time I did it, they'd say, %26quot;Oh, well whatever you want.%26quot;
    Which time?
Since you are a freshman, most of your hours should transfer to another major. Engineering and Law Enforcement are very different. College is a time to find yourself and try new things. If you want to change talk to your parents, hopefully they will understand.
They say to go with one's passion, and that is so true. %26quot;If you love what you do, you'll never have to work a day in your life%26quot; as that ol' adage goes (not sure who said it though ;) You're the one who has to get up each day and go to work for 8 or more hours daily, 40 or more hours a week for how many years so it's really your decision what to major in.

Perhaps you can take some law enforcement courses too and decide then if you would like to change your major. I don't believe that it's that difficult to change major except for certain ones such as business or education. Perhaps you can talk with a counselor at your college about the two majors and about the process of changing coursework. When talking to your parents, perhaps you can just say that you are thinking of taking a detour towards another field.

If wanting to read up on certain careers: http://www.bls.gov/oco and search 'police officer' and 'engineer'.
On the one hand, I do think it's important to follow your instincts. On the other hand, if you end up changing your mind again, I think you're going to find it difficult to get back on the engineering track. It might strike you as something that could be done as a hobby, but you need classes and academic credentials to succeed in that field. In order to become a police officer, you wouldn't even necessarily need a college education, though I'm sure it'll help you get higher pay and rank more quickly.

I would finish out the rest of the year in your engineering classes, and try and take a law enforcement class or two as electives (or over the summer if you can't manage it sooner). If you still feel the same way after you've gotten through more advanced concepts, then you can go to your parents and tell them with full confidence that you've given it your best shot and engineering's just not for you.
You don't actually have to declare your major until your Junior year. You can take your general education classes and a couple of lower division engineering and administration of justice classes and see which one stimulates you more. You never know, maybe another math or science class may be more interesting to you.

There's no rush to declare, that's why undeclared is an option. As long as your taking your general education requirements, your progressing towards your degree so don't stress.

Changing my major...good idea or not?

Currently I am in my fall semester of Junior year. I am a Nursing major going for an RN. I am in danger of failing 2 classes- Pharmacology and Health Assessment. I already have one semester's worth of clinical hours done. If I do end up failing these courses, i am going to consider a change of major, however I don't want to lose all the credits I have thus far. What are some careers I could go for that need the same classes, and are also 4 year courses like nursing is? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!
Changing my major...good idea or not?
Well, I would have suggested pharmacy, but since you're flunking Pharmacology, maybe that's not such a good idea?

Have you considered a Physician's Assistant program? Or some sort of occupational or physical therapy? You could also drop back and look at Clinical Psychology, but you'd probably %26quot;waste%26quot; your hard science courses. Psychiatric Social Work may also be a possibility.
Changing my major...good idea or not?
when you change majors, your courses taken MAY be used to fill in the free electives for the new major. Otherwise you 'lose' them.

Why not put yourself in better shape to pass? better to get the credits. Also, if you change major with a couple of F grades, your GPA will always carry those F grades.........

What caused a major change in the main characters in the novel 'The Lovely Bones'?

changes like consequence of choice, a conflict, etc,.

    thank you :)
What caused a major change in the main characters in the novel 'The Lovely Bones'?
Consequence of choice: You get in trouble for using the internet to do your homework; aka cheating.

Conflict: You'll get mad at me, and probably report my answer because it offends you b/c you are lazy.

Change: I will suffer nothing, whereas you will fail your book report.

What were three major changes in the US in the late 19th century?

This is for a history paper that I need help with. Anyone mind throwing out a few ideas?
What were three major changes in the US in the late 19th century?
    1) On May 10, 1869, the Central and Union Pacific Railroads were linked, finishing the transcontinental railroad, which connected the US from the Atlantic Coast to the Pacific Coast. This led to faster and easier travel, communication, and transportation of goods.

    2) January 1, 1863--President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, which abolished slavery in the United States. This freed 3 million slaves from backbreaking work. This caused a rush to work in factories, where jobs were easier to find. MAny slave owners were upset because of the lost of profit that would result. Slaves did not know how to live after being a slave all their lives.

    3) African Americans were granted suffrage, or the right to vote in 1870. This caused presedential campaigners to have to adjust their campainghn to also sway African Americans, and change the American voting system forever.

Change my major from Computer Science to Computer Information Systems?

    Hello,

I am currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science and I was thinking of changing it to Computer Information Systems. Most of the required classes for both majors are the same and I have already satisfied some of the required classes for Computer Information Systems. I was just looking for advice from those of you who are familiar with both degrees? Thanks so much
Change my major from Computer Science to Computer Information Systems?
Good question. It would depend somewhat on what you want to do, but in the end I think that many of the jobs out there would hire a person with either degree, depending on their other qualifications. Computer Science will get you more of the nuts and bolts of programming. Stuff that many programmers need to understand, but will probably rarely use. CIS will be lighter on the programming, and more involved in database management and possibly business courses.

In making the decision I'd consider 2 things. First is how much a change would delay your graduation. If it's going to set you back more than a semester I would seriously consider staying in Computer Science. Second is what you want to program. If you want to work as a hardcore programmer writing device drivers or game programming, stay with Computer Science. If you are more interested in business systems or web development, then you might make the switch.

    Changing from Accounting Major?

I'm about 3 months into college now taking an accounting major. Anyways, although I did well in my accounting course (Financial Accounting I), I feel as if though this major is not for me at all. And for several reason, first ... I hate repetition and an accountant basically does the same thing day-in and day-out. Second, I don't really like numbers all that much. Third, I wouldn't want to spend 8+ hours a day sitting behind a desk and punching numbers in a computer %26gt;.%26lt;.

The reason I went into accounting is because the thing I wanted to study costs a lot! (I wanted to become a Pilot and I still do, but my parents can't afford the fees). Anyways, I'm thinking of changing my major from accounting to Banking %26amp; Finance. Do you think this is a good idea? What are the pros and cons of this decision in your opinion? Any helpful details of Banking %26amp; Finance that I should know about? What jobs can I get from this degree? Is it boring and repetitive as accounting? PLEASE DON'T SPARE ANY DETAILS. I want to know anything and everything that can help me.

Other possible choices are: Management, Marketing
    Changing from Accounting Major?
I think you would be switching to another major that you would feel the same way about. They are very similar. You would still be behind a desk all day crunching numbers. If you aren't into numbers then why don't you look into some of the social sciences?
    Changing from Accounting Major?
    Marketing
Banking and Finance will be just as boring, but you will already know a lot of the curriculum and probably have taken a lot of the required courses.

However if you want to have a higher salary go for management or if you want to be more creative then marketing.

  • Changing my major to finance from Accounting?

I'm going to be a junior in college the fall and currently a accounting major. I didn't do well in my lower level accounting courses ( I got a D and C) and I'm contemplating on changing my major to finance. I feel like If I do finance, I will have to know a lot of crap about what's going with the economy. I know what's going on, but I probably wouldn't be to throughly explain it. Also, I feel like I have to be an effective communicator, which I feel that I'm not. To be honest, I'm African-American, and I feel that being black hurts me because I don't sound like my white peers. so that's the main reason why I think I'm not a good communicator. ( sad) I really like accounting, my plan is to complete my undergrad degree as a finance major and go on to grad school and do Accounting. I would be more mature and will be able to complete my in Accounting successfully. I just want hear someone else's advice on this topic. please helppp mee!!! : (
Changing my major to finance from Accounting?
Since your requirements might be a c minus or better for all of your major classes, you might have to change it to finance. You likely will take the same classes and you can even minor in accounting while you finish undergrad. You might have to talk to an advisor at your University. I was in a similar situation.

How come the people don't get a vote on a major change in who is in charge of health care.?

This is probably just the first of many bills that we will have no voice in, I'm afraid. As important as the health care bill is we have no voice.
How come the people don't get a vote on a major change in who is in charge of health care.?
Wouldn't that be nice! I wish the government had to put these issues to the people like in local communites when it comes to bond issues and such.
How come the people don't get a vote on a major change in who is in charge of health care.?
because obama is all about silencing the people.
Cuz Obama is a bad President and such things probably don't cross his mind!
Simply that we do not live in a Democracy (where each and every law, rule etc would be voted on by everyone). We live in a country where we elect officials that then are charged with doing the will of their constituents, the problem is once elected a lot become drunk with power or their ego takes over and they do as they please disregarding what we the people want.
That vote was last November. Did you miss it?
    Okay.

    One more time.

    It is not possible.

The United States Constitution does not permit a national referendum on ANY subject.

In order to do what you want, you would have to convince a member of Congress to introduce a Constitutional Amendment, then convince 2/3 of Congress, the president, and 38 of the state legislatures to approve the amendment.

THEN you would have to get your particular referendum on the ballot according to the procedures which would be defined in the amendment.

That would take $millions$ and about 10 years of serious community organizing.

    Have at it.
BECAUSE THE LIBERALS BELIEVE THEY KNOW WHAT IS BEST FOR US
You do, and you did, last year. Obama won the elections where people had that say.

FACT - Insurance companies in the USA admit to pushing up prices, buying politicians and not paying out claims when they should [1]

FACT - PER PERSON the USA spends more on healthcare than any other nation on the planet [2]

FACT - Obama debated his plans before the election for healthcare [3]

FACT - the chance of a child under five of dying in the USA is greater than industrialised nations with universal health coverage [4]

FACT - Obama was elected by the American people to bring in change [5]

FACT - Obama wants to stop insurance companies from screwing American [6]

FACT - The reforms Obama wants work in the Netherlands and Switzerland [7]

Let me know if my facts are wrong, but please provide proof.

IM THINKING OF CHANGING MY MAJOR FROM TEACHING TO....?

a broadcast journalism major or something in the field of an anchor woman haha. im not sure tho. if i do change my major i want to know what im getting into. if i change it to broadcast journalism what exactly would i be doing?

i want to be behind the scenes but if i had to be a weather woman i would. what would this be called as a major?

I'm changing to a biology major, but I don't want to go to med school or do research. What can I do?

I am currently a Biochemistry major. The plan was to go to med school and become a pathologist. But I don't really WANT to go to med school, and you have to really, really want it to get in. I know I don't like research though. Sitting in a room reading most of the day is not exciting enough. I do like lab work, though. What is out there?
I'm changing to a biology major, but I don't want to go to med school or do research. What can I do?
Well, aside from those two choices, you don't really have any other options. Judging from what you said about research, I think you might have a different idea of research than most people think.

If you like lab work, then that's research. Research is NOT just reading most of the day, but research will require you to read other published works from time to time to help in your research. Doing lab work is the actual research. You're experimenting, getting results, making graphs, determining whether a hypothesis is true or not.

There isn't much else you can do out there with a biology degree if you don't want to do research or medical school, not unless you decide to pursue a phd, but that's essentially all research too. Or maybe you can change your academic plan to pharmacy. That uses strong fundamentals of biochemistry.

Your only other option is to do a complete career change and apply for a job where the minimum requirement is a Bachelor degree in any field of study. It's your choice. Hope you find this helpful and good luck.

*I do think genetics is a good choice also, but you will have to check to see if your school offers it. Also, depending on who you work for, you may still have to read some papers once in awhile. I can't stress how important it is to read published articles to help in the biotechnology research field.
I'm changing to a biology major, but I don't want to go to med school or do research. What can I do?
If you like lab work and biology and would suggest getting into Genetics. Geneticists work in labs all the time, studying and working with human and animal genes. Genetics is based a lot on Biology and you would spend much of your time in a lab. Studying genes is kind of the %26quot;behind the scenes%26quot; action in the medical field, in my point of view.

For myself, I find genetics very interesting. I'm majoring in the Equine field and genetics is very important in my field. How everything works is just fascinating to me.

So talk to an advisor in your biology department and see if they have a Biology major with a Genetics emphasis. I think with what you have said, I think you would really enjoy it.

Changing Psychology major to Journalism? Need advice!?

My ultimate dream job would be working as a Journalist in a women's magazine such as Cosmo or Allure. I would love to live in New York City, a place I have always admired and loved. I would consider myself very social and outgoing and I've always been told that my writing skills are excellent which would make a career in journalism perfect for me.

I am currently a first year student at UCF majoring in Psychology. So far I have completed 2 courses toward my actual major and consider Psychology a passion as well. The courses are interesting and very applicable since we are in fact learning about the people around us. I'm hesitant to change my major from Psychology to Journalism and want to know if it really is necessary to have a degree in Journalism or English in order to break into the field. I might consider changing my minor to English or Magazine Journalism. Would that be good enough or is a Journalism major essential for what I want to do?

    Thanks!

  • Can I major in Business if I want to become an Art Curator?

I am currently 18 in college with a major in biology but I am seriously thinking about changing my major to art. I have always loved art, though I cant draw, I think that becoming an art curator and opening up a museum and selling paintings and other art. I am just not sure if business is okay to major in.
Can I major in Business if I want to become an Art Curator?
Yes of course you can become an Art Curator with a Business major.....you will of course want to take all the art classes you can since that will be what you are specializing in....good luck ~
Can I major in Business if I want to become an Art Curator?
If you want to be an art curator you will have to study Art History and Art Theory - these fields take you straight into curating. They cover the business aspect (and much more).
Yes, but have as many credits in art and art history as you do in business or more. I was a Political Science major but I had more credits in English and in art history. You would be doing the industry a service by majoring in business because art IS a business.
You can do a joint degree in business and Library Science -

Will a somewhat major change about the savings of my fafsa be bad?

I already received the financial aid letter from the college of my choice, but the family needs to go to an emergency trip overseas because of a family situation. This would mean reducing the amount I put on the question about savings by about 10K if the whole family goes. Will the university make an adjustment on my financial aid amount as a result, or would they not change it anymore because they already gave me a financial aid letter?
Will a somewhat major change about the savings of my fafsa be bad?
    If I recall correctly, that question says, %26quot;As of today, how much do you (or your parents) have in cash saving and checking?%26quot;

This refers to the day you first filled out the form, this information was correct on the day you filled it out.... - and signed by you and your folks with your pin number.

Changing it isn't likely going to change your financial aid amount because it was correct on the day you filled it out.
Will a somewhat major change about the savings of my fafsa be bad?
I guess it would really depend on the university you are going to, some might allow adjustment if the deadline has not past yet or if the problem is serious enough

If faster than light is possible, what are the major changes to physics as we know it today?

Does quantum tunneling count as faster than light travel? Or is there a space change and therefore time is unmodified. Is this proof that time and space are separable?
If faster than light is possible, what are the major changes to physics as we know it today?
Quantum tunneling does not count. It is a phase velocity at which nothing actually travels.
If faster than light is possible, what are the major changes to physics as we know it today?
There are 2 reasons why traveling faster than light is impossible.

1 - Albert Einstein said that if an object travels with the speed light the matter of its particles will turn to energy.

2 - The higher the velocity of something the more energy it needs to increase its speed (for example, for a body traveling 60% the speed of light to get to 70% the speed of light it will need more energy than for a body traveling 50% the speed of light to get to 60% the speed of light) so what scientists found out is that for a body to travel with the speed of light it will need infinite energy.

In what way did Christianity and Islam undergo a major change during the Middle Ages?

Help me please, any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
In what way did Christianity and Islam undergo a major change during the Middle Ages?
Christianity was in the dark ages, the religion took it down an ugly road where the intellectual feared for their lives, the thinkers of christianity began to feel they needed a new way

Hence secularism was born in Europe Hence USA is a secular country not found on christian principles

Islam on the other hand thrived in the middle ages, the religion made science and thinkers welcome, hence Jews and Muslims had their golden age of Science and learning

Islam was the world leader in all categories of life for over 1000 years until ww1 european colonialism

  • Can changing the MLS schedule help international stars play MLS soccer?

I had a thought the other day, why not change the Major League Soccer schedule to later in the year, after leagues like Champions League is over. This would give international players the chance to play here in the offseason; (kind of like winter ball in baseball.) I mean players always need to stay fit. Vladimir Guerrero does it for MLB, whay can't other sport athletes?
Can changing the MLS schedule help international stars play MLS soccer?
I have been thinking about that four years and i think that it would be great to see some of the worlds talent in the u.s and plus maybe we can get some of the players the u.s are really starting to get great national teams on the women's and men side so that could get more players in the u.s which means more composition which means better national teams and that can't be bad.
Can changing the MLS schedule help international stars play MLS soccer?
Actually, MLB teams don't want their regular players to play winter ball. They only send players who don't play regularly and need more work during the offseason. MLB owners don't even want to let their players play in the World Baseball Classic (remember Hideki Matsui didn't play for Japan). I'm not sure how Vladimir gets to play though...

Clubs do not want to expose their players to injury. Especially from activities away from their monetary interests. Clubs don't like allowing their players play on their national teams... They would rather see their star players rest.

Also, other leagues treat MLS as competition. Believe it or not, MLS is ranked in the top 15 among the world's leagues in attendance.

I'm sure Manchester United doesn't want Wayne Rooney to play at Barcelona for a few matches... And they wouldn't want to risk Rooney's health playing in MLS.
yeah but the problem is if the MLS games are played on saturdays and sundays nobody will show up, on those days the baseball games will be sold out, the MLS should really schedule and have teams play once a week not 2 or 3

How hard or easy is it to change your major as an entering freshman at UCLA?

I'm entering with pre-psychology and I know I have the option of confirming or changing my status during orientation but is it possible to change from psychology to Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology (B.S.)? UCLA students. Any experience with changing your major before you attended UCLA?
How hard or easy is it to change your major as an entering freshman at UCLA?
All students in the College of Letters %26amp; Science are essentially undeclared until junior year when you are required to declare a major. Feel free to explore the wide variety of disciplines offered at UCLA and don't worry about labeling yourself right now.
How hard or easy is it to change your major as an entering freshman at UCLA?
you can try andchangeitforthis year but that would be difficult you can talk to the guy at ur university but i reccomend not going through the stress and changing it next year
considering that UCLA is very competitive it might be stressful to change your major . You can try maybe u might get luck but act quickly because spots can be taken fast. You you talk to an evaluator to tell him what is going on.
It isn't normally difficult at all, unless the major you are trying to get into is something %26quot;impacted%26quot; (which means that it is full and they can't accept any more students) like film. I don't think you will have any trouble with this.
You can change your major easily at the summer orientation at UCLA. While you are talking to the counselor assigned to you about the major just tell them you want to change your major. It will be fairly easy to change your major during freshman and you need to have a definite major by the end of your sophomore year.

What major changes occurred in human life as a result of the Neolithic Revolution?

    Best answer gets 10 points!
What major changes occurred in human life as a result of the Neolithic Revolution?
We eat food from farms now. Before the Neolithic Revolution, we were hunter-gatherers and we didn't have agriculture and we didn't have domesticated livestock (except perhaps we had dogs for hunting). We also started to settle down more permanently in villages and cities.
What major changes occurred in human life as a result of the Neolithic Revolution?
Agriculture. the beginnings of village life and static homes. Religious monuments.

We also got shorter and had a lot more health problems than the meat-eating hunter-gatherers!

Do i have to major in biology to be a veterinarian?

i am in my sophomore year of college and i am thinking of changing my major.
Do i have to major in biology to be a veterinarian?
No, vet schools don't care what your major is. They only thing they care about is that you've taken their required courses for admission. Biology is a popular major because so many courses overlap, but if you're more interested in something else, then go ahead and change your major, but understand that won't change the biology classes you'll have to take to be admitted to vet school.
Do i have to major in biology to be a veterinarian?
Biology, zoology, physiology, or anything medicine related that will transfer well to post-grad in your field of interest.
    Ditto to Cherry P.

I am a college student who keeps changing majors & I cant find 1 I really like. Does any1 know any websites?

I am a college student who keeps changing majors %26amp; I cant find 1 I really like. Does any1 know any websites?
Figure out why you do not like the majors you have tried already. As a undergrad, the first two academic years of classes are pretty much the same for all of them. If it is the basic classes, just bear with them

I do not know any websites for this sort of thing, but check the library for books about choosing a career.

    Get a job at McD's.

Live on the money you earn.

Maybe now you're old enough to appreciate an education.

Re-enter college with a new outlook.

  • Changing my major a few days after changing my major : - /?

I changed my major from IT to Information systems on wednesday but now I want to change it to an A.A. degree and transfer into International Business. So, will it be bad to change it on Monday? Any negative consequences to this? I don't know if they evaluated my credits from a different community college and AP and stuff, they might get aggravated if they have to do it again.
Changing my major a few days after changing my major : - /?
If you're at a 4-year school, chances are good they don't offer associates degrees. And yes, it looks bad to keep changing your major. You don't have to declare a major in a field to take courses in it - try taking some courses in the field and then deciding what you want to major in instead of continually bothering your adviser.

Why did you introduce a major change to our taxation system from sales tax to GST without a referendum?

I do know at the time you said because you had been elected you had a mandate from the people .......... but to do what you want? If any responsible leader of any country were to dramatically change that taxation system, then don't you agree that the change ought to be ratified by the people's vote on that very critical change. Or is it a dictitorial decision that because %26quot;I am your leader then I will do what ever I want because the majority (in this case not) elected me%26quot;. I found and still find that decision reprehensible Mr. Howard. I trust that you will have a peaceful retirement from having to make decisions and overide the needs of the Australian people in spite of their well-being and best interests.

We have paid far too much and far too well for your dotage.
Why did you introduce a major change to our taxation system from sales tax to GST without a referendum?
Yes, remember him saying %26quot;there will never, ever be a GST (under my government)%26quot;?

The old core and non-core promises?

Had to love Janette recently saying in defense of her deceitful hubby that sometimes he just says he's going to do something but that doesn't mean he is going to really, or something hilarious to that effect.

It was inevitable since the Asprey Report in the 70's that under a Liberal government at some point we were going to get a high-revenue-raising broad-based tax such as GST, of which a greater burden is borne by low income earners because it is not a progressive tax. Liberals opposed the Labor introduced capital gains tax which is essentially a tax on wealth and is fair under our progressive tax system (i.e. the greater your means are, the more tax you pay). That nicely illustrates the traditional difference between the parties as far as their views on social welfare and equity are concerned.
Why did you introduce a major change to our taxation system from sales tax to GST without a referendum?
Is this meant to be for John Howard? You need to go in to the Election section to ask him questions...
hay there nice question i glad you asked it , good on you
Actually it was a policy of the Liberal party to introduce GST in the 1998 election. That was never a secret and from memory tax reform was a big issue in that election with both sides having significant tax policies.

I think Howard's stance on this is that the voters essentially voted for GST by voting in the Liberals, as the campaign was basically 'a vote for Liberal is a vote for GST'.

Changing majors and college at Berkeley?

I am a incoming Berkeley freshman majoring in Microbial Biology at CNR (College of Natural Resource). But i want to change my major to Neuroscience at L%26amp;S (Letters and Science College). Is it a good idea to change my major? I am going for a pre-med course.

CNR is said to be the most flexible, better for small-learning, and convienent for pre-med pre-reqs. L%26amp;S is said to have more req than CNR, more competitive, and a larger learning community (student to teacher ratio is bigger than ratio of CNR). I am confused....what should i do ....any advice? Is transferring to CNR to L%26amp;S easier? HElp please!?!?!?!?
Changing majors and college at Berkeley?
If you want to go to medical school, you should stop thinking about which path is easiest and start thinking about which patch will prepare you for medical school the best. I doubt that CNR will give you the best preparation -- and I (for one) don't want a doctor who is ill prepared.
Changing majors and college at Berkeley?
Stay in your current major. Look at how many people are in MCB then calculate that only 15% those people are allowed A's. You probably have a better chance at keeping up your GPA in CNR. In the meantime, study hard.

What should i do...i am planning to change major from nursing to accounting...but should i?

do associates in accounting or bachelors.I know bachelors is better, but i dont want to wait 4 years without supporting my family(parents)..if i do the associates ,it can be done within 2 years...but will i actually get a decent paying job with an associate degree...what should i do...i really want to support my family...

also is 25 year too old to graduate with bachelors in accounting...

    thank you
What should i do...i am planning to change major from nursing to accounting...but should i?
25 is definitely not too old to graduate with a degree. i am in the accounting field and i can say that you do not necessarily need an accounting degree.

A coworker of mine had a degree in physiology but took several accounting courses at a university (so that he may be eligible to sit for the CPA EXAM). Even if you have an accounting degree, you are nothing until you have a CPA license. I have an econ background and have been in accounting for 3 years. Being around all my peers, i can tell you that accountants are poor but they know how to save money since all we see is numbers. Until you are an accounting manager or director, which requires a CPA... you won't make the same amount as a RN. Honestly, if I were to go back in time, I would be a nurse.

    But to answer your question...

I'd say take the associates first, and if you REALLY enjoy it, im sure you can transition to the B.S. degree easily.

I need help getting fitter after a major life changing event?

i am 50 plus have had two broken ankles got diabetes and reached

30 stone and was unable to walk

diabetes in now under control and have lost some weight but can only walk a few steps because of weak legs

is there a genuine skilled person who knows what to do thanks
I need help getting fitter after a major life changing event?
Start slow. Do what you can and build a little every day. You may also want to get a resistance band to do some stretching exercises, which you can also do sitting down.

As you build your strength and continue to lose weight, it will become a lot easier to move around.

Good luck and don't give up! %26quot;)
I need help getting fitter after a major life changing event?
Congratulations on the weight loss!!! Try to do some water aerobics. You actually have less exertion in water than on land.
I tried this program to lose weight, you might like it too. theskinnyyou.info.

    Good Luck!
congratulations on losing some of the weight mate.
maybe try doing the rowing machine...there's also another exercise machine that you just sit down and hold on to the handles and rotate your arms i'm not sure what it's called but something like that may make you feel more inclined to exercise longer to burn more calories and losing more weight because you won't be putting any strain on your legs. If you don't have access to the gym or those types of equipment try bike riding..it will still promote strengthening your legs but again won't put as much strain on them as walking would. I would say keep up the good work and give bike riding a try! good luck! :)

I am changing my major to Biology. For medical school purposes, does it matter whether it's a B.A. or a B.S.?

If the curriculum requirements for a B.S. are more difficult and you earn straight A grades, your record will look stronger.
I am changing my major to Biology. For medical school purposes, does it matter whether it's a B.A. or a B.S.?
Absolutely not. It doesn't matter one ounce. The differences between a B.S and a B.A in America are wishy washy at best. You don't even have to change your major to Biology, you just need to complete a %26quot;pre med%26quot; checklist, which at most universities can be done in your %26quot;General Studies%26quot; section of your checklist... in any major. My girlfriend is a doctor, went to a top Med School, got into one of the most competitive residencies in the country (EM), and graduated with her degree in Communications. (not a science) I don't know the undergraduate major of a lot of her friends from Med School, but one of them worked as an Engineer for a couple of years before he went to med school. If you have the pre-med requirements, major doesn't matter.

The funny thing is, in many government and private corporate science jobs, employers often think there's a difference between a B.S and a B.A and have a preference. But, med schools, being connected to Universities, know that in America there is no significant difference between a B.S and a B.A in Biology. Biology is a rigorous major, whether your degree is designated %26quot;Arts%26quot; or %26quot;Sciences.%26quot; Keep your GPA up, as that will matter more for med school admissions.
I am changing my major to Biology. For medical school purposes, does it matter whether it's a B.A. or a B.S.?
No. You can go to med school with any degree, as long as you do the pre-med courses, write the MCAT and get excellent grades on everything.

I'm thinking of changing my major?

I'm currently %26quot;undecided%26quot; but I am taking pre-med classes. My second semester in college, and I hate Biology already. It doesn't help much that I am almost failing. Recently, I found that I am leaning towards going for an International Business major, but I want to know what types of classes should I take. I know math is a must for business, but what other classes should I take? Should I get a minor in some kind of language? ( I know spanish and english)
I'm thinking of changing my major?
Do not waste your time with international business it is a go nowhere major. Instead consider accounting, economics, finance, management, or human resource management. If you are fluent in Spanish and keep up your Spanish skills then if you combine it with a business degree it will be fairly equivalent to an international business degree. Also if you get the chance do a semester or a year of school in a Spanish speaking country which would help you.

  • What are the biggest obstacles to overcome when implementing a major change inside an organization?

What strategies can be used to overcome them?
What are the biggest obstacles to overcome when implementing a major change inside an organization?
Don't let the organization tear itself apart. I think the biggest obstacle comes from the inside. Some people don't like change, so they will fight you tooth and nail to keep things the way they are. That can cause a big rift, but in order for an organization to keep running smoothly, everybody has to be working together.

I think it would be useful for someone to tell everyone in the organization that it is time for change, and allow for a question and answer session - just make sure that it does not become a heated debate. It is hard, but I've been through it a few times, and once I was the implementor of change, so I feel your concerns.

Try to get everyone on the same page and understand why this change must occur. Good luck!
What are the biggest obstacles to overcome when implementing a major change inside an organization?
The people are the biggest obstacles, especially those employees who have been in the organization for a number of years, and are reluctant to change, or feel threatened by major overhauls. In order to counteract this fear, there should be plenty of preparation and reassurance that even if they are reassigned to another position within the company, and have to learn new skills, that help and guidance will be available, and that they are not going to lose their jobs. If they no longer feel threatened, they will be more amenable to any changes that occur.

Is anyone out there a business management major?

i'm thinking about changing my major to that but i'm not sure...do you like it so far, i guess i'm just asking for an insider's opinion.

What are the pros and cons?
Is anyone out there a business management major?
I'm an MBA. If my opinion counts... then .. management is one of the best options in the market. You might need to work hard to get in to the right position and once you get there you'll achieve a loot. A nice area...

Hi here is an email I got in the past few days that might give you an idea or two. I hope it might be of use to you

    The Spoiled Under 30 Crowd

If you are 30 or older you will think this is hilarious!!!!

When I was a kid, adults used to bore me to tears with their tedious diatribes about how hard things were when they were growing up; what with walking twenty-five miles to school every morning...uphill BOTH ways yadda, yadda, yadda

And I remember promising myself that when I grew up, there was no way in hell I was going to lay a bunch of crap like that on kids about how hard I had it and how easy they've got it!

    But now that...

I'm over the ripe old age of thirty , I can't help but look around and notice the youth of today. You've got it so easy! I mean, compared to my childhood, you live in a damn Utopia! And, I hate to say it, but, you kids today, you don't know how good you've got it!

    1. When I was a kid we didn't have The Internet. If we wanted to know something, we had to go to the damn library and look it up ourselves, in the card catalog!!

    2. There was no email!! We had to actually write somebody a letter...with a pen! Then you had to walk all the way across the street and put it in the mailbox and it would take like a week to get there!

    3. There were no MP3's or Napsters! You wanted to steal music, you had to hitchhike to the damn record store and shoplift it yourself! Or you had to wait around all day to tape it off the radio and the DJ would usually talk over the beginning and @#*% it all up!

    4. We didn't have fancy crap like Call Waiting! If you were on the phone and somebody else called they got a busy signal, that's it!

    5. And we didn't have fancy Caller ID Boxes either! When the phone rang, you had no idea who it was! It could be your school, your mom, your boss, your bookie, your drug dealer, a collections agent, you just didn't know!!! You had to pick it up and take your chances, mister!

    6. We didn't have any fancy Sony Playstation video games with high-resolution 3-D graphics! We had the Atari 2600! With games like ' Space Invaders ' and 'asteroids' and the graphics were horrible! Your guy was a little square! You actually had to use your imagination! And there were no multiple levels or screens, it was just one screen forever! And you could never win. The game just kept getting harder and harder and faster and faster until you died! Just like LIFE!

    7. When you went to the movie theater there no such thing as stadium seating! All the seats were the same height! If a tall guy or some old broad with a hat sat in front of you and you couldn't see, you were just screwed!

    8. Sure, we had cable television, but back then that was only like 15 channels and there was no on screen menu! You had to use a little book called a TV Guide to find out what was on!

And there was no Cartoon Network either! You could only get cartoons on Saturday Morning. Do you hear what I'm saying!?! We had to wait ALL WEEK for cartoons!

    9. And we didn't have microwaves, if we wanted to heat something up, we had to use the stove or go build a fire .... imagine that! If we wanted popcorn, we had to use that stupid JiffyPop thing or a pan with HOT oil and R eal popcorn kernels and shake it al l over the stove forever like an idiot.

    10. When we were on the phone with our friends and our parents walked-in, we were stuck to the wall with a cord, a 7 foot cord that ran to the phone - not the phone base, the actual phone. We barely had enough length to sit on the floor and still be able to twirl the phone cord in our fingers. If you suddenly had to go to the bathroom - guess what we had to do.....hang up and talk to them later.

That's exactly what I'm talking about! You kids today have got it too easy. You're spoiled.

You guys wouldn't have lasted five minutes back in 1980!

    Regards,

    The over 30 Crowd

I am thinking about majoring in government but what jobs are available for a government major?

I really don't want to be a lawyer, but I love my government class in college, and I would be interested in changing my major from Radiology to government if I knew that there is a good job outlook for pursuing a major in government, can someone please help me in answering this question, greatly appreciate.
I am thinking about majoring in government but what jobs are available for a government major?
Why don't you contact local State or Federal representatives and see if they have some internships that you could do? Someone I know continued on and went to grad school in DC in International Relations. I recommend going to school in that area if you are interested in government because you have everything from Congress, to the FBI, CIA, NSA, State Department, and Pentagon you could all intern at and see what you truly want to do.

How hard is a biology major?

I am currently changing my major from Computer Science. I am having trouble deciding what to choose and started thinking about Biology. I had trouble with Calculus in my second semester and was wondering if Biology is hard and does it require Calculus or higher? I am currently a Freshman so I honestly have no idea what I should choose.
How hard is a biology major?
It requires a lot of science classes, like a year and a half worth, plus elem stats and either pre-calc or trig.

  • Help!! need info in changing my major for college!!?

Hello I recently began watching that TV show FLIP THAT HOUSE on TLC.It is basically about buying a really old house and rebuilding it for a better value for profit. I dunno if any of you know about it? Since watching that show I began getting interested in it and was wondering what kind of field in college I can get into too to do things like that? What do I need to know and what college major is it called to do stuff like that? Is it architecture? Please help me asap THANKS! I am currently in a accounting major but thinking about changing cause this kind of stuff sounds very interesting. Can you make a lot of money in construction and stuff like building houses n stuff? Please respond! THANKS!
Help!! need info in changing my major for college!!?
everything Amanda said, along with a degree in architecture.
Help!! need info in changing my major for college!!?
definetly civil engineering and business law, law b/c u need to know regulations invloved with it, engineering b/c u need t olearn how to rebuild a house properly
Architecture wouldn't normally be required for this type of success. What it takes is good business savvy, a willingness to use sweat-equity to rebuild the house, excellent financial skills so you can manage the business. I think your current major, combined with some experience working with a home contractor or remodeler, will serve you well. For everybody who succeeds at this, there are dozens who find that they are overwhelmed by the actual rebuilding process and never flip even one house for profit. What sets the winners apart from the losers is an understanding of what needs to be done and exceptional savvy about how to get it done.
You might want to think about a double major. Accounting would come in very handy when it comes to the finacial/business side of this. As for what courses, it will depend on do you plan on being the worker? Or just the boss/investor?
nobody goes to college for construction. people that flip houses hire cheap labor to do the work for them. they just manage the whole project. Unless you're building houses from scratch, an architecture degree would be overkill.

keep your accounting major and take some project managment courses. you should get a real estate license too so you dont have to pay a realtor a bunch of fees.

Go into accounting after college. this way you can have a real job and flip houses on the side. its not really a job that you get hired to do, its like starting a business.

I would get a real job and do it on the side for a while. if you are successful, then you can always quit your job and start it as a business but buying and selling is a risky business, especially with the way the housing market fluxtuates. i would not put all your eggs in one basket.

i think its one of those things where its possible to make money doing it, but not likely.

How do I get my major changed?

Hello, I'll be attending SFSU as a freshman this fall...on my application I already declared Journalism as my major, but I would like to make tha tmy minor and make Political Science my major instead.

How would I go about doing that? What office should I go to?
How do I get my major changed?
Contact the admissions office since you're still a new future student.
How do I get my major changed?
You will most likely be assigned an adviser who will help you with this. I wouldn't worry about it, though; a lot of people don't declare a major until their second year and even then people change their minds all the time. Not a big deal.

I'm thinking about changing my major...?

...I am currently a interior design major, but I'm thinking about changing to environmental studies. What kind of jobs can I get with a degree in environmental studies?
I'm thinking about changing my major...?
All the answers dude said above are correct. You could even go into Public Policy or even law to continue into environment law. Whatever you do just be aware that you should probably go for your graduate degree right after to increase your chances of securing a good job. The graduate degree is the new bachelors nowadays.

Is there any major changes between 07-10 models of the yamaha yz 125?

i have a a yz250f, and its great. But i feel like riding something new. i found a deal for an 07 yz125 and im considering on buying it. though before that i would like to know if there are major improvements in the newer models, if there is then what would be the best year?
Is there any major changes between 07-10 models of the yamaha yz 125?
I'll be honest, I haven't really followed that model over the last few years, but I seriously doubt that they made any huge changes since there is no racing and development team racing the 125. Because of that it would be very hard for Yamaha to make any real improvments and why would they put R%26amp;D dollars into a bike that no one races? Just doesn't make sense. So I would say grab that '07. I race a CRF250R/450R but bought a RM125 just to practice/play on and I had forgotten how much fun 125's are. The YZ125 is hands down the best 125 in my opinion also. You should have a blast on that bike.

Should I major in business management during these times?

Basically, I'm thinking about changing my major to business management. But I'm really confused because of the financial and economic crisis going on. So I just needed some feedback on if majoring in business is a good idea right now?
Should I major in business management during these times?
In my opinion, business management is an excellent choice for both an undergraduate major and graduate work. The knowledge you gain will help you to understand the current financial and economic crisis. You'll be able to manage your own business if you decide that entrepreneurship provides you more options than employment. Historically, recessions have come to an end eventually, and when it does end, you'll be prepared for management jobs.

Te best reason *not* to major in business management is if you really don't like the field or if you really love some other field. If what you want to do with your life is make ceramic pots as art, then major in art. If you dream of creating culinary delights, then major in nutrition, home economics, or culinary arts. Of course, if you dream of owning a restaurant chain, you might want to major in business and minor in food to combine your loves.

Addendum: When you near graduation, you can reassess the employment situation. One step you can take to increase your employability, albeit not in the business world, is take teacher certification courses in addition to your major courses. Last time I looked, it took about 15 to 18 shc (or roughly one semester extra) to earn teacher certification. Even if the recession plods on, schools and community colleges will continue to need teachers.

Addendum 2: There will always be people with wants and needs and there will always be products that satisfy those needs. %26quot;Business%26quot; is the juncture at which products are supplied to satisfy the demands of those wants and needs. *Somebody* is going to manage and administer that business function, and if you're prepared, that *somebody* might be you. If you're not prepared, the chances are really good that the *somebody* will be somebody else.
Should I major in business management during these times?
Nope, right now if you try to start up your own business, you get effed in the a. I just switched my major from business managment to marketing. It's the safest way. Or you could become a doctor. Both these things don't rely on the economy for profit as business does and rather rely on consumers. Its a better way financially. -Student from Pepperdine University Class of 2009
MBAs are renting cars and being receptionists for the health club.

In other words, you can't go anywhere in business without a MBA, and if you don't have any concrete, specific skills, you'll end up in a plebian job.

    TX Mom
Of course! That is a great idea, because im guessing you'll be graduating in 2-3 years? By that time, I believe America's economy will be up to date and competitive because soon our economy is going to be running on alternate energy, just like before when our economy was amazing, it ran on its specialty then: computers. So maybe you should try to look for an energy engineering/business major. I think Penn State has an Energy Business Finance Major if you are an undergraduate. But they also have energy engineering for everyone as well. Good Luck!
well there will always be jobs in business and the economy will go up and down , you have to remember that
There isn't a big difference between a BA in marketing or a BA in management. Business will always be around so you are safe. Plus your degree doesn't get you a job. You do. Its how you use it. I have friends with the same degree as myself and we all used it differently and are in VERY different positions even just 4 years out of college.
No dont. Its to vague of a field. Chose a dedicated field for example, like nursing where when you send out a resume there will always be a connection to what you do.

Business management is a career where you get the experience in the field and majoring in it will not make much sense.

But an architect will put you in a great field with many possibilites, as well as a defined line of what you want.

DONT BE TO RANDOM. Chose a career and go for it.

Is it possible tos swap transmissions without making any major changes in the car?

I have an 03 eclipse gts but is there any way I can make it a manual without any major changes? And how much would it cost me
Is it possible tos swap transmissions without making any major changes in the car?
its a MAJOR undertaking. you need the transmission, flywheel from the manual, ECU from the manual, COMPLETE engine wiring harness from the manual, axles from the manual, shift linkages, shifter bushings, shift lever, shift boot, shift knob, center console to accept the shifter, three pedal assembly because the brake in the automatic is too far left to allow proper placement and travel of the clutch pedal, clutch master cylinder, hydraulic lines, and transmission mount. The total cost you can expect to spend if you buy quality parts and labor to install will be in the $7,000-$10,000 range.

    Changing my major to psychology?

i am going to be changing my major next semester to psychology specifically i want to be a counseling psychologist and i would also like to be a psychologist with an teaching degree with it on the side so i would be able to teach student's as well since it has been one of my passions to teach since i was a child and i also love psych to lol how funny is that, anyway i was wondering if anyone could tell me how i could do that, and also what kind of classes i should take for that that would help so much
    Changing my major to psychology?
During your undergraduate years, get good grades in most everything, to keep a 3.5+ GPA. You'll need a Bachelor's degree in any field in the humanities or social sciences, so you can get into graduate school. To teach high school Psychology, you'll need a high school teaching credential.

Do counseling volunteer work, to be sure you *like* counseling, before you go to all the trouble of getting a Ph.D. in it!!

After your Bachelor's, take the %26quot;5th year%26quot; requirements, like Using Computers in the Classroom and your state's History, to get your education for the teaching credential. Then take the test, to get the high school teaching credential. Skip this if you want to teach in college.

Take the GRE test, to get into grad. school.

A lot of counseling psych. programs now, go from Bachelor's straight to Ph.D., with just a Master's stuck in the middle, for a 5-year program. That is the easiest %26amp; cheapest way to go. Get into one of those programs, and get your Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology. Then you can do the hours required, or take the tests, to get licensed in your state, to practice as a private practitioner, OR you can just teach with your Ph. D. !

    Good luck!
    Changing my major to psychology?
All this is fine, but good communication is vital in psychology. You seem to have only one sentence for all your thoughts.

Improving on communication is one, seriously. All the best!
And how do you feel about that?
Well, if you want to teach high school psychology, (depending on what state you're in) you will most likely only need a Bachelor's in Psychology and a teaching certificate. If you want to counsel, maybe you should become a counselor, not a psychologist. You would get a Bachelor's in psychology and then go to grad school to either be a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMH) a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT). All of these require a Master's degree. A psychologist has a PhD and is qualified to teach at colleges, and counsel people. Most psychologist don't counsel though, they do research. Typically counselors counsel...you have some research to do and decisions to make.
oh just shut up im in middle school i dont even know what that is.. gosh....................... rude
Yay! Psych Majors for the win!! High Five! Good luck and best wishes!
I agree with Boss, communication is vital for psychology and teaching.

So maybe study communication as well.

Good luck with whatever you choose to study!

Hi Im a student in the west coast who wants to be an athletic trainer but the problem is that my school does not offer athletic training as a major. They dont have the programs for it.But they do offer some interships with some classes on the side. Im a student who is majoring in Biology but im thinking of changing my major to Chicano/Latino studies. But I wanted to if it is possible to be an athletic trainer even though im not majoring in it. Any suggestions?
Is it possible to be an athletic trainer even if you major at another thing?
Some gyms like Bally's hire fitness trainers.... maybe you can start off doing that and work your way up by gaining more knowledge and experience to become an athletic trainer (if there is a difference).

But, it's always a good idea, especially when it comes to dealing with people's body and health to have some sort of formal education.

How does Chauncey Jeromes life encapsulate the major changes that occurred in this period?

How can his life stand as a symbol of the changes discussed in the chapter?
How does Chauncey Jeromes life encapsulate the major changes that occurred in this period?
    Hi Rachael.

I'm not sure what chapter your alluding to.

So I will try and answer your question as best I can in the hope that it helps you.

Chauncey Jerome was largely responsible for the first mass-produced brass movement clocks in America. He operated in New Haven between 1845 and 1855. Because of his discovery of a method of stamping rather than using casting gears, Jerome was producing the lowest-priced clocks in the world at the time

. In 1855, he went out of business and the New Haven Clock Company took over his operations, producing clocks under the name %26quot;Jerome %26amp; Co.%26quot; By his own admission, he was a better inventor than businessman. Traveling from town to town, Jerome took jobs where he could, often working for clock companies that had learned the business of clock making using Jerome's inventions. Returning to New Haven near the end of his life, he died, penniless, in 1868 at age 74.

Nevertheless, Jerome had made a historic contribution to his industry when he substituted brass works for wooden works, said to be the greatest and most far-reaching contribution to the clock industry.

    Chauncey wrote, : %26quot;The ticking of a clock is music to me, and although many of my experiences as a business man have been trying and bitter, I have satisfaction of knowing that I have lived the life of an honest man, and have been of some use to my fellow men.%26quot;

Thats about it. I hope it helped. Sorry if it's not what you were looking for.

Can I get into med school as a psychology major?

I was thinking of changing my major to psychology because nowadays, it seems like the majority of college students are bio majors looking to get into medical school. With the amount of competition, I have heard stories that med schools look at your gpa and science grades much harder if you're a bio major. If I changed to a psych major, would my road to becoming a doctor easier or much less likely? What are the benefits of majoring in something other than bio, but still looking at shooting for medical school?
Can I get into med school as a psychology major?
Yes, as long as you take all the pre-requisites in math/science/English and earn at least a 3.5 GPA. You'll also need high MCAT scores, great recommendations and, ideally, volunteer or paid work in the field [e.g. in a prof's research lab]. Many med schools like to see well-rounded students.

Can I major in Psychology to become a Doctor?

I find Psychology very interesting! And I heard it's alot easier than majoring in Biology. I know I have to take the Pre-requisites to get into Medical school. Will majoring in Psychology be easier than Biology? because I heard it's a smooth program. And how will changing my major in Biology to Psychology affect how well I do in the MCAT? thanks!
Can I major in Psychology to become a Doctor?
Any major is fine as long as you take the premed classes. The premed classes are the ones you need for the MCAT, so not doing a bio major shouldn't hurt you there.
Can I major in Psychology to become a Doctor?
You can major in anything, so long as you complete your %26quot;pre med%26quot; checklist. I have one friend who has her degree in Psychology, who's currently working in Ohio, and another who's degree is in Communications who's an Emergecy Room Doc.
All majors are eligible for medical school, as long as you complete the pre-med courses and do well on the MCAT.

FYI, Psychology + Medical school + Psych residency = Psychiatrist
YES you're exactly right....Psychology will give you the advantage of gettin into MEd School I LITTLE BIT easier because you have an uncommon major comparable to the 81% of applicants whom have Biology/Chemistry degrees, 12% Nursing, and the remaining % is in the Liberal arts i.e. Psych, Enlgish, Sociology, ETC.

The MCAT is comprised of Physical Science (Math, General Chemistry, a little Organic Chem, Physics), Biologicl Sciences, Verbal Reasoning (like the SAT or ACT), and then Writing (Essay)....

AS far as MEdical School pre-reqs...they all require mainly the same ones: Introductory Biology (Intro Cell/Molecular and Intro Ecological), Physics, General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Math (Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Statistics) and lastly your general education requirements but you should take these anyways with any major (English, Social Sciences, Speech etc.)

What are some major changes and health concerns to look for in my body at age 29?

Ive recently notice this past year mostly toward the end of age 28 to age 29 that I have began to have these following issues with my body. Extreme swelling in hands, face, and legs, moodiness, tiredness, stomach cramping and low metabolism, 10-15 pound weight gain and changes in menstrual cycles. Are these signs of age or Other health concerns I may need to see a doc. about?
What are some major changes and health concerns to look for in my body at age 29?
See a doctor. Women are not suppose to have changes in cycles unless your preg, etc. Swelling and fast weight gain are bad. I would go to the doctor.

That stuff does not come with age.

  • What was a major change in society from 1970 to 2009?

I am doing this for a sociology project and I cannot find an answer. Please help! Thanks.
What was a major change in society from 1970 to 2009?
    Some possibilities:

    Changes in views on homosexuality

    Changes in abortion laws

Changes in racial viewpoints e.g. Mr. Obama is now president of the USA

Is changing from a major scale to the relative minor (C major to A minor) technically considered a key change?

    Yes.

Although it is the relative minor, it still uses different notes in the scale (eg - G# in A minor)

That's why Bach wrote 48 Preludes and Fugues - one for each key.

(I know on the piano C minor and B# minor are the same, but that wasn't the point)
Is changing from a major scale to the relative minor (C major to A minor) technically considered a key change?
Yes, it is. Whenever the tonal center is changed to a new note, you have a key change. Even though the key signature does not change, there are significant differences between C major and A minor. First of all, there should be G sharps in the true key of A minor (this provides the leading tone). Each key has its own leading tone, but in minor keys, we have to add them in the form of accidentals. Some composition and theory experts consider the use of relative minor without the appropriate leading tone to be modal, and not in the true key of the minor.
Is changing from a major scale to the relative minor (C major to A minor) technically considered a key change?
    Yup, sure is.

In most sonata movements in which the first theme is in a minor key, the second theme is in the relative major.

However, in most sonatas in which the first theme is in a major key, the second theme is in the dominant major (oen more sharp or on fewer flat).

I don't know why the composer seldom writes the second theme in the relative minor, but I suppose he could.
It is ABSOLUTELY a key change! %26quot;A%26quot; minor has a new tonal center and other relationships in many ways similar to C major, but absolutely different in tonic-dominant relationship to C major. It is part of western music's evolution which has made classical music so amazing and powerful.....even a core element of modern music, from heavy metal to hip hop, folk, jazz, alternative, etc.
Yes. A key change is defined by a change in tonic/tonal center, NOT just whether or not the notated key signature looks different.
yea i guess...heck i thought key changes would occur if a piece changes key by itself...
    Yes.

Should I switch my major from finance to accounting?

I am considering changing my major from finance to accounting but I am not sure what to do. I am currently a junior and if i switched right now i would not fall behind and would still graduate on time.
Should I switch my major from finance to accounting?
I'm sure you took the lower division Financial and managerial Accounting. If you did GREAT in those classes you shouldn't have that big of a problem. Junior year is just your core business classes that ALL business majors take whether concentrating in finance, Accounting, management, or marketing. If you feel you're stronger in Accounting than finance than i advise you to SWITCH concentrations.

A major change in the European economy during the Commercial Revolution was the development of starndard?
The most important factors enablilng the Commercial Revolution to succeed were reliable trade routes and payment systems that were accepted everywhere along the trade routes. Religious practices were irrelevant to the development of commerce.

What can I do with a major in Political Science?

I'm thinking about changing my major to political science since I am passionate about politics, my question is what type of job can I get after I graduate from college with this major?
What can I do with a major in Political Science?
Hey Joesph, I hold a BA, MA and DA in Poli-Sci. Yup, that makes me a DOCTOR.lol (If you knew me, you'd get why this is funny.) :P

Seriously though, Political Science is probably THE most common pre-law major. With a BA in Poli-Sci, a large percentage of graduates move on to law school. Others move directly into teaching. Fewer still, end up beginning a career in politics, though typically not in lead roles. Generally, an astute poli-sci graduate that dives into politics will end up in an advisory capacity. You could work for politicians (obviously), lobbyists, government and even larger corporations. Many of the latter have need of people with such an education, to advise them on everything from how government works to the intricacies of policies and popular opinion. Post-grads who get an advanced degree (masters, DA/PhD(some schools award PhDs and some DAs) )tend to end up in teaching, more often than not. A BA or MA in political science (along with a state teaching certification) will easily place you in elementary or secondary education. Likewise, a doctoral level degree will tend to get you into a faculty position at many of the best colleges.

In closing, this question is asked a lot. In fact, one of the best running jokes in this regard is that a political science degree and fifty cents can get you a soda. This is so far from the truth, though. Honestly, the truth is that an education in political science can be rewarding to political junkies like you and I. Afterward, it is almost always a springboard to a career that has endless possibilities and like most other majors, it will be what YOU make of it. For a more thorough and less personal answer, I've included a source to which I have directed others who have asked me this question. I think you will find it useful.

    As always, hope this helps!
What can I do with a major in Political Science?
work as a foreign service officer, work with an international trade company, work in consulting...

basically anything that involves government or research, a political science major would be good at, although advanced educational training would make you more desireable.

  • Changing majors from Chemistry to Art, Music, or film studies?

I'm stressing out. I love Chemistry but I don't think it is my passion. However, I enjoy Art and learning about its history and it looks like something I can do for the rest of my life.

I'm beginning my 2nd year at my university and I've only finished my GE classes up to this point. Am I pulling an idiot move? And will I still be able to make a decent income?
Changing majors from Chemistry to Art, Music, or film studies?
there's nothing wrong with switching majors (over 40% of students do so) but i do find it perculiar that you're switching from something that is nearly the opposite. if you're switching b/c it's too hard than yea it's an idiot move, if you're switching because you like liberal arts more (%26amp; don't care how much you will make) than no it's not an idiot move.

i'd rather do something i like %26amp; not be wealthy rather than being rich for doing something miserable.
Changing majors from Chemistry to Art, Music, or film studies?
You're probably more likely to be able to get a job with the chem major than with an art major.

One problem with majoring in art is that your school may require a portfolio to be admitted to the art major and may also have a %26quot;foundations%26quot; freshman course [or year, even] that is required for the major, which would mean that you'd have a lot of ground to make up. Don't know what it would be like for music or film, but they may well have some type of %26quot;audition%26quot; or other requirement for admission to the major. You'd need to check with your school to see what the requirements are.
I guess you could make a living at doing something with art. But with Chemistry there are more possibilities that would be more stable than if you were to do something with Art. I guess if you did art history you could probably work at a museum or something like that or go on to get a PhD and teach art history at the college level.

I have decided that I want to go back to school for website development and was wondering what the best school would be for that? I don't care if it is online or a campus. I live in Roseville, Michigan and don't have any plans to leave just yet. I was thinking about going to Kaplan University online.
I need help with a major life changing event.?
Honestly - you could probably learn this yourself without enrolling in a course. Most courses in this subject (and I teach them) are basic and out of date. Unless your tutor is a professional web designer (actually makes websites that are paid for) I would not pay for it.

Check with the schools you are thinking about and ask questions about the teacher of the course, find out if there is any placement opportunities / co-op / intern work where you get actual experience, rather than just being taught how to use an application.

Key topics are HTML, Javascript, CSS, Flash.

How hard is it to change major for a freshman trying to go from Chemical Engineering to Comp Science at UC?

It depends. Computer Science, by itself, is not within the engineering department but computer science with electrical engineering (a special subset of electrical engineering) is within the engineering department. Computer Science transfer should be easier (the major is typical easier) than computer science and electrical engineering which (at my school - UC Davis) has a higher COLLEGE gpa criteria (%26gt; = 3.0 ) that must be meet before they let you into the major. For inter-engineering transfer you need to go to engineering office advisor (they can do it all for you) and for transfer between differnt departments you need to go to the registar's office, get some paper worked signed and then approved by your new department's dean. In neither case do they ever look at your high school gpa or SATs or letter of rec. Do yourself a favor, and transfer to computer science not electrical engineering with computer science (called cs and double e) which is much tougher than pure computer science.
How hard is it to change major for a freshman trying to go from Chemical Engineering to Comp Science at UC?
It usually involves going to your registrar's office and filling out a new application and paying a fee..
How hard is it to change major for a freshman trying to go from Chemical Engineering to Comp Science at UC?
yea...but then when they look at your new application...are they going to review everything..like your high school transcript ans SATs.....if u kno the answer plz tell me, i really need to kno this.........thank you
Ref's concern about taking SAT's and all of that college entrance red tape is wrong. You can transfer from one school to another. You can also change majors just as easy.

What major changes do you envision for the Roman Catholic Church before the dawn of the 22nd century?

There will likely be changes. Big ones.

Perhaps one needs to look at this from a secular perspective to believe that there will be.

Women Priests? Acceptance of homosexuals? Married Priests?

What do you see happening over the next 91 years?
What major changes do you envision for the Roman Catholic Church before the dawn of the 22nd century?
The Church has not changed in 2000 years...I would not hold my breath if I was you. The Church cannot change from the teaching of our Lord. The Church is not of the world but is instead other worldly. God bless!

    In Christ

    Fr. Joseph
What major changes do you envision for the Roman Catholic Church before the dawn of the 22nd century?
I'm hoping that all three will come about.

The Church really needs to modernize.
Oh god, I hope it's not still there in 91 years. You'd think we'd have moved on a bit by the 22nd century. I guess I'll never know.
Paul II said that if the next pope (the one in now) was not an extreme liberal pope, then the one following him would be. That wouldn't surprise me. I believe they must to gain greater power in the world (which is the opposite of what Jesus taught we are to be like).
I see the allowing of Latin rite priests to get married to combat the priest shortage, though that will create an uproar from the SSPX.

The pope himself does not have the power to allow women priests and has personally said so, so that's not going to happen.

And we already accept gay people.
Women priests might require an infallible pronouncement from the Pope one way or the other in time. If the pronouncement is negative, it will never happen. - Homosexuals are already accepted; however, sexual activity can never be condoned among them since this is reserved only between a man and a woman %26amp; ONLY as a married couple. - Married priests is a possibility, but celibacy would remain an option.
Smaller, more devout. Stronger liturgy. Reunions between east and west. More prot groups coming home. If it changes much, it will become more traditional. However, I fear a couple of the South American bishops will break away under 'liberation theology.' However that is being cleaned up too.

The married priests, pro-homo crowd are and will die out (aka the gnashing of dentures.)
The truth is not relative but is objective. you will find the teachings of Jesus were relevant 2000 yrs ago as they are today. With time the truth has been discerned with constant prayer to go ever more deeply into the deposit of faith entrusted to the Apostles and handed over their successors, the doctrine of the faith will not change to suit secular society
Bible prophecy says that %26quot;Babylon The Great%26quot; which is the world empire of false religion will fall.
i see a massive downfall . well actually i just hope it happens . i am sick of being forced into the Roman slavery . God lead the slaves out of Egypt when will he lead US out of slavery of Rome .
Whatever the Holy Spirit wants. Nothing that the Holy Spirit does not want.

I do not attempt to try and discern what the Holy Spirit will do.

By the way, the Catholic Church does accept homosexuals.

Created in the image of the one God and equally endowed with rational souls, all men have the same nature and the same origin. Redeemed by the sacrifice of Christ, all are called to participate in the same divine beatitude: all therefore enjoy an equal dignity.

The Catholic Church believes there is nothing sinful about being homosexual. But all unmarried people (homosexual, bisexual, and heterosexual) are called to celibacy.

    The Church specifically says that homosexuals %26quot;must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided.%26quot;

    Official Church documents:

    + %26quot;Always Our Children: A Pastoral Message to Parents of Homosexual Children and Suggestions for Pastoral Ministers%26quot;

For more information, see the Catechism of the Catholic Church, section 2357-2359: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt3s鈥?/a>

    With love in Christ.
Actually, there likely will NOT be any %26quot;big changes%26quot;.

It is *possible* that they might begin allowing priests to marry (in order to increase the number of priests ordained - celibacy is the primary deterrent). It is possible now - one need merely become an Anglican priest, marry, then switch allegiance to the Roman Catholic Church...so that is not SO much of a change.

Woman priests - not a chance.

Acceptance of homosexuals - they are accepted.

    %26lt;%26lt;What major changes do you envision for the Roman Catholic Church before the dawn of the 22nd century?%26gt;%26gt;

    Changes? None.

Doctrinal Developments? One or two is possible.

    %26lt;%26lt;There will likely be changes. Big ones.%26gt;%26gt;

There's no way of knowing for sure what Doctrinal Developments will take place, or when.

    %26lt;%26lt;Perhaps one needs to look at this from a secular perspective to believe that there will be.%26gt;%26gt;

Well, you certainly can't find any %26quot;big%26quot; need for %26quot;change%26quot; from the Dogmatic point of view!

You have to go from a secular point of view because secular values, and Dogmatic values are quite often directly opposed to each other.

Since God's Law (Dogma) trascends earthly law (secularism) it's easy to see, from a Dogmatic point of view, how wrong secularism is when compared to Church teachings.

    %26lt;%26lt;Women Priests?%26gt;%26gt;

No. That is a Scriptural impossibility. If it wasn't, there would be women priests by now.

    %26lt;%26lt;Acceptance of homosexuals?%26gt;%26gt;

Merely being homosexual is not a sin. Therefore, homosexuals are accepted.

The sin of homosexual sex is not accepted on account of the fact it violates the Christian Virtues of Chastity and Abstinence.

    %26lt;%26lt;Married Priests?%26gt;%26gt;

Theologically, it has always been possible for married men to become priests.

What is not theologically possible is for a single man, who is also a priest, to then marry.

Put simply, once a man is ordained, he can no longer receive the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony. If one wants to be both a married man and a priest, he needs to marry first, and then be Ordained.

    %26lt;%26lt;What do you see happening over the next 91 years?%26gt;%26gt;

Certainly not the same developments you deem necessary.

That might be because I am seeing it from a strictly Dogmatic point of view while you see it from a secular perspective.
The most important development will be continued expansion of the education of Catholics and non-Catholics about Roman Catholic doctrine and dogma. That will come through forums such as this exchange, and through verifiable and easily accessible sources such as The Catechism of The Catholic Church. People's education hopefully will develop with the welcome guidance of the Holy Spirit. The Catechism of the Catholic Church is conclusive and clear regarding %26quot;women priests%26quot;, and is very clear about homosexuality. A careful reading of even a few sections of the Catechism will leave most people with the clear impression that it is written in a spirit of genuine love for God and all His creation. The Catechism of the Catholic Church is available in English in an inexpensive paperback. If you can't afford it, any Catholic priest would likely help you get a copy.
Well over 91 years it MIGHT be possible that the church will get more relaxed on the priests not being married. I doubt it though. There are some protestant pastors who converted and became priests that are married from what I hear, so it possible they might get a little more relaxed with it, but the chance is slim to none.

As for the others, I seriously doubt those things will change. I really don't see the church allowing women to become priests, and I seriously don't think that the views on homosexuality will change (which is that it is a sin)-- btw, you make it sound like we don't accept homosexuals as if we view them as outcasts and we can't even associate with them, but this is not true. It's viewed as a sin, but since we are all sinners, we can't judge them.
I don't doubt that some changes will occur. We will, for instance, see a Pope from Africa or Latin America, and one not only of European descent at that. This is inevitable as the Church as a whole (across all Christendom) is experiencing its most rapid growth there.

Doctrinally, I think we'll see a major change in the importance given to Marian theology, which is doctrinally defined but seems to be more important to certain ethnic identities. If these identities shift (ie, Mexican-Americans see themselves as more American) then these cultural devotions may decrease in importance, and Marian theology may lose importance in practice. Conversely, with the heavy focus of Evangelical missionaries in the third world where Marian veneration is often practiced, we may see a strengthening of Marian theology as Catholics seek to distinguish themselves from Evangelicals.

We will also likely see progress in relations with Muslims, the world's most rapidly-growing faith, and often a faith against which Catholicism butts heads.

As far as internal changes, I think married priests are far more likely than women priests simply because there is precedent but also because the source of these rules are very distinct. The Catholic Church points to Scripture to rule out women being priests (because Jesus appointed men), however its ruling on celibacy is more recent - it came into effect because of certain conditions, and may very well change if those conditions merit it. It may not be practical (think of all the funds that would leave coffers to help cover health insurance, etc, for priests' families), though, so that must be considered as a caveat.

As far as acceptance of homosexuals, I should note that it is homosexuality (ie, the actions) that is forbidden. The homosexuals - the people - are welcomed because we are all sinners in this Church.

I think we'll also see a closer relationship with the Orthodox Churches, which we don't see much of in the U.S. for historical reasons, but which are much more important in Eastern Europe and Western Asia. We may very well see ecumenical inroads with our Reform brethren as well.
