Changing from undergrad business at UC berkeley?

I applied as a business major at UC Berkeley and was accepted. I intend on attending as a freshman this fall. But I was wondering, if it would be difficult to change majors to something more a bit %26quot;pre-med%26quot; perhaps biochem? To be honest, I don't know what major I would like yet, and I'm having second thoughts about business. But I just want to make sure I can keep my options open.

Thanks

If you're an incoming freshman, then you're not in the business school yet. You still have a chance to test the waters in terms of your interests. However you'd be a complete idiot to waste the opportunity to attend Haas.

You enroll in Haas in your 3rd year; you have apply to get into the major/school. So right now, like most of the other freshmen, you're undeclared.

Take the courses that overlap pre-med and business first: Math 1, R%26amp;C (reading and composition) and so forth. If you survive Chem 3 and that doesn't make you want to run screaming from pre-med, then go ahead and major in bio. But if you did want a shot at business, you'll have to take Econ 100 and Stat 21 or 2.

Of course, you can actually be a pre-med in business. Here are the pre-med courses you need to take at Cal:

Math 1 or 16A%26amp;B

Chem 1A%26amp;B

Chem 3A%26amp;B

Physics 8A%26amp;B

Bio 1A%26amp;B

R%26amp;C A%26amp;B http://ls-advise.berkeley.edu/requiremen鈥?/a>

As long as you do all of these, you can major in ANYTHING. btw AP credits do not count towards medical school eligibility.

For a Berkeley kid, you're pretty dumb. Of COURSE you can change your major later on if you don't think business is for you. You can always change your major. Even in your senior year (although that would be pretty dumb because you'd have to pay a ton more for the extra classes). Most everyone going into college has no idea whatsoever about what they want to do for the rest of their lives. Everyone changes their major like, 5 times before they're sure. So yes, you can keep your options open. You're not the only one.
Changing majors is fairly easy at UCs for most majors except for what are known as impacted majors. These are majors lots of kids apply to, such as engineering, business (at most UCs), economics, and political science. Almost all biology majors are impacted.

I forget what the exact procedure is at UCB, but at most you simply fill out a form and have an advisor sign additional forms. You may not be able to switch first quarter, and your transfer will depend on your GPA. You may have to satisfy pre-reqs first. However, since you were admitted to an impacted major, you should have less trouble. Talk to your counselor or RA when you meet them for more information.

Good luck!

EDIT: Holly, not every college allows their students to switch, at least not easily. For example, UCLA does their admissions by major and therefore switching is rather hard. At Cal Poly, you are more likely to be hit by a car than be able to switch majors.
