I have been working on a degree in IT. I really want to change it but non of my credits will transfer. I love writing and want to major in English. However, the main reason I am not sure is because I have a record from when I was younger. I could never get a job teaching so most of the field seems out of reach. I got in a few fights in the past and really messed this guy up bad (like in hospital for some time). Beat him the head with brass knuckles on. So aggravated assault with a deadly weapon will never allow me to teach anyone. You know now I still find it hard to really believe I lived the life I did. I don't even know that person I was anymore as if that whole side died long ago. Anyway, is their any job an English major could have with a record? Suggestions are welcome LOL =P Yes I posted this in this section on purpose. For some reason people in this section have much better answers and seem so much more supportive of ideas. No offense straight people of the world LMAO
Changing major not sure about it?
I'm going to remain absolutely calm and be as impartial to my life as possible when I answer this:
Your best bet is to stick to IT. There are more jobs and better paying jobs to boot out there in the world. Your record travels with you, you can go to school to be a English teacher but when you apply for a job and you HAVE to get a criminal background check your past will pop up.
In truth it would be up to the school's discretion on whether they hired you or not, some play by the book, others do not. But that's really not a guarantee nor is it worth the hassle.
Let me think....any other positions. Oh, you could always go into journalism or be a professional writer, an editor in some firm. That sort of thing.
Sidebar: Just so you know, I've been on the receiving end by people like you. Although I do not know the situation I will say this: You may be able to move on, but even though my scars have healed.... that night is imprinted in my head for the rest of my life. It kills me to think that the people who have beaten me to a bloody pulp and killed my best friend simply write off their crime as something they did as a child and think that now that they are grown they shouldn't hold any responsibility for their previous actions.
Changing major not sure about it?
lol well cool about the LGBT =P
and if you were under 18 when you got in trouble, doesn't your record clear and you start all over at 18?
at least thats what i believe so if thats true go for it, but if not then i dont think you would be able to be a teacher.
idk
