Is being a Pediatric nurse good for somebody who was initially an education major?

I'm finishing up my 4th year in college I am a junior! Would it be wise to change majors at this point. Only pre-nursing program available at the university I go. Approximately how many more years until I start seeing the light at the end of the road haha.

Of course. Providing education to patients and families is a HUGE part of nursing. It's up to you on whether to switch, what profession is most appealing to you and why? Are you just getting burnt out on school right now and think you need a change?

If you do choose nursing, you have a couple of choices. You can continue to finish your degree in Edu. and then find an %26quot;accelerated BSN%26quot; program for people with a previous BA/BS degree, you complete a few science pre-reqs and then enter the nursing courses, which you can complete in about 18-24 months. Or, you could stop your Edu. focus now and pick a nursing school (don't waste time in pre-nursing). Take whatever pre-reqs your school of choice wants, then start their program. If you go for an Assoc. Degree it will take you 2 years, as those nursing courses are sequenced and cannot be completed in less time. If you go for a full BSN, once you start the nursing courses it will take you roughly the same amount of time, but the courses aren't always sequenced in such a way that makes it inflexible in how many semesters it can be completed.

So at a minimum, you're looking at probably another 3 years in school. Maybe you should just take a semester or year off before jumping back in. Nursing programs are intense, and you don't want to be going into it already burnt out on school. I would strongly suggest speaking with your academic advisors at your school but also schools that offer nursing programs to see where you would stand, and what courses you have that will transfer.

Good luck with your decision.
