He was able to see the world through Jamie's eyes. He starts out being this jaded and cynical person, but Jamie helps him see his possibilities in life and what he could do if he tried. Basically, he starts as a pessimist and becomes an optimist.

I think his biggest change was growing up and maturing so quickly. He went from teasing everybody to defending Jamie and falling in love with her. That's the basic idea. If you go with that, you culd just expand on it a little with more examples and stuff.
