1960 = The Civil Rights Era. This is the era where Martin Luther King did his speech. A result of the movement was the 1964 Civil Rights Act. The Civil Rights Act changed %26quot;BY LAW%26quot; banned de jure segregation and other types of discrimination. Of course, that did not get rid of racism. Although de jure segregation was not allowed, racist beliefs were still held by many afterwords.
