College student needs advice about changing major...?

I'm a junior in college and I'm currently majoring in English. However, I've recently been toying with the possibility of changing my major to cinema studies. My English classes have been sucking the life out of me. Before college, writing was my biggest passion, and I was an avid reader. Now, both feel like chores. I feel like my English major is slowly breaking my spirit, but changing majors in my junior year means many things- I may not graduate on time, which could lead to extra tuition fees. There's a possibility that I won't like cinema studies. My parents might kill me for switching majors. I question the job possibilities that are attached to this new major. So the $100,000 question is....Should I change my major?

If you've never taken a cinema studies class in your life, you definitely shouldn't be making it your academic focus. Instead of switching your major without a clear direction and goal in mind, I think I'd stick with English. However, plan on taking as many electives as you can in cinema studies or in other areas so that your brain has fresh information to play with, and hopefully that in turn will inspire your reading and writing.

English will lead to a job teaching high school. Unfortunately, cinema studies will probably lead to the unemployment line, so I understand your parents' feelings, although I doubt they would carry them out unless they want to go to prison.
I think your just hitting a rough patch in your studies. Don't change your major, but, take one or two cinema classes before you decide anything. If writing is your passion, then it will come back to you. Give it some time.

What's your hurry, there's no deadline? Also, there are no jobs!

That's a fact!

Let me suggest that a degree in a specific area does not guarantee a job in a specific industry. %26quot;Cinema studies%26quot;, that's something you do after you get your English degree. Having multiple degrees including graduate school, I would suggest you finish your current program, and then go to graduate school to %26quot;specialize%26quot;.

Yes, you are getting your butt kicked! I know you don't see it now, I am telling you it's going to pay dividends in the future. Finish this program! If you can do this, you can do anything!
